Post Grant Hill considering retirement??

After this season, Hill might hang 'em up

Published November 28, 2006

He offers glimpses of his past all-star self, a skilled craftsman at work.

He looks as if he's enjoying the game immensely while shepherding his younger teammates.

And moreover, he appears healthier than at any time during his star-crossed career with the Orlando Magic.

Why, then, would SG Grant Hill even mention retirement?

Hill tells the Sentinel that retiring is a viable option at the end of the season when his seven-year contract with the Magic expires.

I would be really dissapointed if Grant retired. He has always been one of my favorite players. I wasn't mad when he left the Pistons like most Pistons fans, because I felt like he gave everything he had when he was here. Plus at the time it seemed like they would never get him enough help to win a Championship.

Alot of people don't seem to remember how great of a player he really was. I think he could play another 2 or 3 years,if he doesn't have any more (serious)injuries.

Re: Grant Hill considering retirement??

I don't think he'll really retire unless he has more injury issues. They asked him if he's thought about it and of course at this point he has. But if he can make it through this year relatively healthy, I think he'll play another year or two in Orlando cheaply. I don't expect him to play anywhere else before retiring. If he does, maybe Detroit, but that would be it.

Hill has said in the past that if he is healthy, he will re-sign with the Magic for the vets minimum. I say he will probably sign a 2 year cheap deal if he makes it through this season healthy, giving the Magic plenty of cap room to go out and get a high priced FA. Carter and Lewis would probably be the Magic's first and second choice. The Magic also need to make sure to get Darko, Howard and Nelson extended this summer.

You can't really blame him for this thought process. Sometimes you have to know when to hang 'em up for good. If he gets even a little bit of troubles from injuries this season, I don't see him coming back.

I hope when he retires we keep him in the organization. I real stand up guy and very respected. I could see him being a good coach down the road.
