These players contracts are up for next season:

Carlos Arroyo
Pat Garrity
Keyon Dooling
Maurice Evans
James Augustine

These players have a team option on their salary

JJ Redick
Adonal Foyle
Marcin Gortat

Without these players, the Magic have 7 players under contract for 54.8 Million dollars. Which of the above players will the Magic keep, and which will they cut?

I say they pick up all the team options, and maybe Evans and/or Dooling. It all depends on whom the Magic can woo in FA. Convince Fran to come over (yeah.. good luck) and then use our MLE and Bi-Annual Exception to sign a couple of veteran players.

Turkolgu/Redick
Lewis/Evans
Battie/MLE/Cook
Howard/Foyle

IMO they will sign Evans to the VE and also give Dooling a nice extension. They won't use the MLE unless they can get a player who is truly going to improve our roster, especially when you got Battie coming back, Fran coming over from Spain and they will have a 1st round pick in June. Arroyo, Augustine, Gortat and Garrity are gone.

All in all, I think the Magic will look to add a legit starting PF in the offseason with the MLE. If no one bites, they won't use it.

2008-2009 Magic:

PG Nelson, Dooling, 1st round pick
SG Hedo, Bogans, Reddick
SF Lewis, Evans
PF MLE player, Cook, Fran
C Howard, Battie, Foyle

They could have up to 14 players under contract before the season even starts which is a good thing IMO.

garrity is as good as gone. unless we need practice bodies and he accepts the minimum. how he ended up with a decent contract still is beyond me for a tweener with no D.

arroyo i think could be brought back. dooling is a possiblity too. evans i'm not too fond of and cook is cheap and could fit in with us.
