Orlando Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu strengthened his bid to win the NBA's Most Improved Player award Thursday when he was named the Eastern Conference's Player of the Month for April.


Turkoglu led the Magic to a 5-3 month, averaging 19.8 points on .504 shooting and 6.4 assists. Turkoglu was the Magic's leading scorer in five of the team's eight games, while helping Orlando secure the Eastern Conference's third seed for the playoffs.

Earlier this season, Turkoglu became the first player in Magic history to win the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award in consecutive weeks.

Turkoglu is a leading candidate to win the Most Improved Player award after averaging career highs in points (19.5), rebounds (5.7), assists (5.0), field goal percentage (45.6) and minutes (45.3) this season. He's also had two triple-doubles, scored three game-winners and ranked in the NBA's top 10 in fourth-quarter scoring.

Turkoglu had 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds against the Hornets on April 1. He had 23 points, five assists, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the Magic's defeat of Cleveland on April 5. And on April 13, Turkoglu scored 24 points, had eight assists and three steals in a victory against Chicago.

Los Angeles Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant was named the Western Conference Player of the Month for April. Bryant averaged 26.1 points to go along with 5.5 assists, helping the Lakers go 7-1, and earn the top spot in the Western Conference Playoffs. Bryant scored 20 or more points in seven of the team's eight games, including two 30-plus point efforts. In a win over Portland on April 2, Bryant led the Lakers with 36 points and 13 rebounds. It was the second Player of the Month nod for Bryant this season.



I'm telling your right now, if he dosent win this I will be shocked.
He has had such a great season and it just did nothing but make the hole team better.

Yeah Hedo had a great season and I think he deserves the award even if he doesnt want it.......I thinks its ultimately between either him or Gay tho.

Orlando Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu, snubbed by coaches picking all-star reserves this season, received some consolation:
He will be named the NBA's most improved player on Monday.
The Magic have scheduled a news conference but wouldn't say what it was about.
Turkoglu had career highs in points (19.7), rebounds (7.3) and assists (4.7) for the Magic, and contributed two game-winning shots.
Turkoglu, in his eighth season, averaged 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists last season.
He was given a more expanded role in the offense with the free-agent exit of Grant Hill, and became the Magic's fourth-quarter go-to player.

I am not sure about Grant...I mean I wanted him to stay with the team and accept a limited role...Imagine him in starting five instead of Evans now, of course if he could stay healthy, I actualy think he would be healthy if he stayed in Orlando, stupid D'Antoni just played him too much during the season.
