Zaza heading to Italy?
http://www.eurobasket.com/ITA/ITA.asp
Quote:
Zaza Pachulia (6-11-C-84), the Georgian center of Ulker Itanbul that was picked in the 42nd place in the last draft by the Orlando Magic, could find himself in the next season in Italy. Pachulia joined Ulker when he was 15 years old, and still has one more season in his contract, but lack of playing time and chances in Ulker might send him to Western Europe during the summer.
Pashulia, who won the Euroleague player of the week award (youngest ever to do so) during last season when Joseph Blair was injured, could find himself next season in Montepaschi Siena or Pesaro, who are trying to make a comeback to the elite of the Italian league.

I guess that's good news for the Magic. Although I thought Zaza could contribute as early as this coming season (as proven by his 23/10 and 18/11 performances in the last two Euroleague games he played), he will be given plenty of playing time in Italy to improve his skills and to boost his confidence.

Nice info. I wish we could keep him here this season. Buy him out and let him train here. We are a young team, might as well give guys like him, Gooden, Giricek, Hunter, and Gaines as much PT as they can handle.

I never saw the point of drafting someone and then not having them on the team.....

I see what you mean O-Town Playa but we will see this more and more with the emergence of Euros in drafts. Remember Pachulia is only 19 so he won't be that much of a loss. There are numerous examples where Euros have benefited from staying overseas: Ginobili is the most recent example but there's also Kukoc, Radja, etc...

IMO, its a lot better letting ZaZa go to italy to develop for another year...
And I thought he was on the summer league roster?

He is. Chances are he will be on the team next year, but they have to work out that little buyout problem.

Right now Zaza isnt ready for the NBA. And the NBA, although it is misjudged to be, is not the best place to develop a player. When your overseas, you practice much more than you do in the NBA and you develop quicker (due to the 50 hours a week of practice). That's why these kid's like Darko for example are being such top prospects, an 18 yr old in Europe is more developed than a 18 yr old in America most of the time. (dont be an *** and say things that have anything to do with Amare and Lebron, their anomalies)

Uhh.... I don't have to be an asterisk. Euro players DO NOT develop more quickly than American players. Euros may be all the rage at the moment, but theres ALWAYS a better American player the same age. You make it sound like good American players (at ANY age) are a needle in a hay stack, even though it's our sport. That's kinda stupid. Especially considering how many superstars came outta high school. Amare and LeBron aren't the only ones, in case you started watching the NBA a year ago....
There's no such thing as anomalies.

actually they do, they practice MUCH more, like I said, they practice 50 hours a week (3-4 hours a day). For more information about European training, go here:

You have made that point. BUT.... more training DOES NOT always equal better player.

If that were true, why would International Expert Scout Tim Shea say that:
Quote:
|
These kids should have gone back to Europe and played instead of sitting on the bench in the States.
|
He was talking about most European players drafted in the past few years.
Like who?
Quote:
|
Shea: (Golden State guard) Jiri Welsch, (Houston forward Bostjan) Nachbar, (Denver forward Nikoloz) Tskitishvili. What was the phrase from Sherlock Holmes? “Elementary Watson.” These kids should have been back there playing, working on their game, working on their skills, practicing 50 hours per week and getting experience. The clubs over here kept them. I don’t know why. It’s really against what I think would be good for any franchise.
|
again,
Quote:
|
Nachbar and Tskitishvili, being that they didn’t play a lot, they should have gone back
|
But you are right in a way, Shea pointed this out, not all players need more training, for instance, players like Pietrus and Diaw. Reason? Because these players played a lot in Europe (they were stars actually), so they're not as raw as the others like... well... Zaza for example, or, Lampe.
I believe I have proven my point completely, need I quote anymore? Fun thread though, you made me remember where I got that interview.
