Magic Depth Chart
PG - Lue/Gaines
SG - Tmac/Bogans
SF - Howard/Giricek
PF - Gooden/Garrity/Harvey
C - DeClerq/Hunter/Pachulia
From what i've read, it sounds like that is what our starting lineup is gonna be. Lue is an improvement over Vaughn. Having Howard in the lineup is also an improvement. And the bench, especially with Giricek moving there, is much better and deeper.
Gaines and Bogans are going to be the keys. They both need to contribute. Bogans is probably more ready as of now. I'd like to see Gaines take the starting PG by the All-Star break.

Good post as usual Dee Bo. I was just thinking about this and posted a minutes breakdown in another thread. I think one thing that should be noted is Doc seems to be leaning towards having two starting lineups depending on the size their opponent has. The smaller lineup would include Giricek at small foward and Howard replacing DeClerq at center.
Also, I see Garrity as more of a small foward now that the Magic have added two (maybe three depending on Harvey) big guys. I agree with you about the rookies. They need to help out, especially Gaines. Like you said, I hope he is ready to take over the starting job sometime during midseason.

I think most coaches don't like going with two different lineups, but in this case, I think it is the best option. I think Howard can definitely hold his own playing C against probably half or more of the teams in the league.
Playing the bigger teams, we could go with Howard, Gooden, and DeClerq.
I think the team is definitely better with Tmac, Giricek, Gooden, and Howard all on the court together.

Yeah, but isn't a done deal, that was an assumed acquisition.

Even though he might technically be the starting small forward he probably won't get a lot of minutes there. He'll get most of the minutes at power forward Gooden doesn't play and he'll see some time at center, especially against smaller teams. Actually, I think Howard will play a lot more center than people think. It wouldn't have made much sense to sign him if this wasn't the case. Howard is a big guy (260 pounds) and he's banged with the big boys in the West so I think he can play significant minutes at center in the East, as well as the two forward positions.

Plus people tend to put way too much emphasis on one on one defense, especially in today's league. Unless you are a guy like Ron Artest or Doug Christie, as long as you aren't a total matador, it usually doesn't matter that much.
Team defense is much more important. Orlando played a lot of zone style defense last season and probably will again.
Last season, Orlando played much, much better defense when their offense was on, especially the other guys besides Tmac ... and the offense should be much better next season. There aren't nearly as many guys that will be on the floor that are completely offensively challenged.

Yep, its me, Doc. I get bored in the off-season.
I meant "we'll" as a fan base, obviously.

Exactly, last year the Magic were one of the top teams in the NBA in offense, and by subtracting Vaughn, and giving DeClerq less minutes, and adding Lue and Howard, the offense should only get better.

If the name of your franchise is the Raptors you guys are gonna get schooled all Millenium long.
Anyway... I think the depth will look like this by the playoffs:
Gaines / Lue
T-Mac / Bogans
Giricek / Garrity
Gooden / Pachulia
Howard / Hunter
