Armstrong officially a Hornet

NEW ORLEANS -- Free-agent point guard Darrell Armstrong signed a two-year contract Tuesday with the New Orleans Hornets, ending a nine-year career as a fan favorite with the Orlando Magic.
The team did not disclose terms, but Armstrong told the Sentinel last week that he would receive $6 million over two years.
The Hornets wanted a productive veteran to back up starter Baron Davis, who had nagging injuries to his back and knee last season. The only other point guard on the roster was seldom-used Bryce Drew.
"This is a team that is loaded. This is a team that has experience in players from veteran to younger guys," Armstrong said Tuesday. "I'm just excited about being here. I'm excited for Tim Floyd. Hopefully, we can get him some wins this year. I definitely look forward to the challenge."
The Hornets planned an announcement Monday, but it was held up by complications that needed NBA approval.
Armstrong, 35, averaged 9.4 points and 3.9 assists for the Magic last season despite playing every game with a strained right shoulder. He had surgery after the season. Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines will take over point guard duties for Orlando.
Armstrong said he still is trying to rebuild strength in the shoulder but is fine otherwise. His career averages are 11.7 points, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals, and he is a quick, aggressive defender.
