McGrady has a lot to say about the playoffs and his future
Quote:
|
Asked if he would consider opting out after the 2004-2005 season, McGrady told the Orlando Sentinel, "I don't know. I can't say yet."
|
Quote:
"I think we're going to be better," McGrady said. "Who knows how things are going to work? You have Drew Gooden and a guy like Juwan [Howard] coming in. I don't know how [Coach] Doc [Rivers] is going to play both of those [power forwards] at the same time. I'm pretty sure he has something in mind. But I think adding a guy like Juwan Howard, his caliber, is really going to help us out. It's going to help me out.
"Yeah, I definitely think this is the year [to get out of the first round]. I hope those other guys are working as hard as I am."

Something tells me that T-Mac isn't very happy in Orlando and is waiting his days before he can bail out. The whole Grant Hill situation may have taken it's toll on him and trading Mike Miller away didn't help any either.
Sounds like he's openly questioning the signing of another PF after trading for 1 in Drew (but he was being nice about it). One of the reasons he went to Orlando was to play with Grant Hill. I remember seeing him in an interview grinning and talking about him and Grant Hill playing together.
T-Mac is essentially going in with a whole different team than he did at the beginning of last season except for Declercq, Sasser and Garrity. A team needs to build chemistry to win and I'm sure he's frustrated.

i dont think its that he isnt happy with orlando and doc rivers as it is with the wunderbar gm-ing. i mean... trading away big ben for grant hill's contract (cuz well thats all they got...) and they traded away mike miller (even tho imo they got massively better from that deal) lol... and hes pissed that he has such a crap team that they couldnt put away the pistons with a 3-1 lead... lol... poor trace... he'll get his support this year though... gooden, lue/rookie kid, juwan howard...

When the Magic traded for Grant Hill it was two scrubbers for a superstar. You can't blame management for getting Grant Hill who I think COULD have been one of the best ever.
We (The Pistons) just got lucky to get anything in return let alone our team leader and a great role player. Ben Wallace and Chucky Atkins were contributers on the Magic but nothing compared to what Hill was in Detroit. you guys just had bad luck.
In the east Juwan Howard and Drew Gooden could just be two post players. There is no rule saying a team MUST have ONE PF and ONE SF or C whatever. They could just go high school style and have to bigs under the basket.
I think Orlando will be a good team next year, with Drew for the whole year and Juwan like I said then your two rookies!

You can't blame Gabriel for Hill not being able to play. Chucky never really did that much for Detroit, and no one knew Ben Wallace would become what he did. Still, Orlando would take a healthy Hill over those two today every day of the week.
And the Mike Miller trade was a fantastic trade for Gabe. He got basically a near Miller clone in Giricek in return and added a possible future All-Star PF. That trade was the first sign of Orlando letting go of the Hill/Tmac dream and building strictly around Tmac.
Gabe and Orlando management have made some sub-par moves in the draft, like letting go of Brendan Haywood for nothing and the Sasser and Humphries picks were basically busts, but that happens to dozens of teams very year. And letting their pick go to Phoenix in the Bo Outlaw trade that eventually netted Amare Stoudemire was tough, but in hindsight they were trying to attempt to sign Hill, Duncan, and Tmac in one summer and nearly pulled it off.
Gabe has basically defined the way teams re-build nowadays ... drop all your big contracts, stockpile hard-working players, stockpile draft picks and hope for some good drafts and marquee free agents.

Do you think the Magic need rebounds as much as they need a 2nd scorer which Hill has more a chance of being, to compliment T-Mac?

If Hill were to come back right now with diminished skills, he'd be our 3rd option at best. Gooden almost averaged 20 points before the toe injury, and he'll undoubtedly be our 2nd option regardless of what Hill would be able to do.

As the clock counts down, I rather have the ball in Hill or T-Macs hands.

Gooden can be 2nd option, and Hill is an excellent passer. He can find ways to score in other ways while being focused mainly on getting the team involved and drawing attention away from Tmac.
Thats if he returns, I loved watching him play back in the days. I have a feeling he'll never be the same though, which is extremely disappointing.
