Why because with the few minutes he has had in a few pre-season games he hasn't done well? Orlando has barely even put in their offensive sets yet, working mostly on defense to begin with.
You could at least give him maybe half a season before making judgement.

For Doc Rivers to have been a nba point guard, I think he sucks at evaluating guys at that position. lets take a look, Jeryl Sasser, Jacque Vaughn, Tyronne Lue is a back up point guard at best and will not be succesful as a starter, and reece gaines. quiet as its been kept doc is not at all overwhelmed by the progress gaines has been making. I think bogans has a better chance of being the pg of the future than gaines. but hey...I could be wrong....its all a crap shoot.

I said to you guys Gaines was gonna be a bust and Magic jumped all over me. I saw the guy play a lot I don't know what the Magic draft people were thinking. If it's any consolation though I think the Celts may have missed the boat too. Marcus Banks has more potential as our PG of the future than Gaines does as yours but he's still playing like crappola! We should have taken Luke Ridnour, I wanted him but everyone was down on him saying he was too small and skinny.

I think Gaines will still be a solid player. His defense is great and he's got a good shot. He just plays scared as hell once he gets out on the floor. Not sure if he'll ever be a consistent PG. He seems to have a very high dribble, which is not a good thing in the NBA.
I wish Orlando had taken Zoran who was drafted by the Nets. I bet he would be starting in Orlando right now.

Well he's a very tall PG... You'd think a guy would get some confidence stepping on the floor with TMac... Just bring the ball up court and get McGrady the rock... Okay, seems easy in concept...

gaine's biggest weakness: confidence
i agree, he looks scared out there. i'm sure he has the skills to be the PG this team needs, somebody just gotta make him snap out of it. who knows, i think by his third year he may be ready... of course, that may be too late... this team needs a PG NOW!!

Obviously bringing the ball up the court isn't such a simple task for him. He turns it over every time he tries to do it. Most of the time he doesn't even make it to halfcourt before being swiped.

I think he is referring to the one game, maybe the first, where Gaines did get the ball bringing it up the court and basically got jacked for three straight plays. I remember Doc yelling at Shammond Williams to get the ball.

Should be a 2 or 3...
Maybe Doc should try using him some at the 2 or 3 spot..
Just because a guy is a decent passer in college doesn't make him a point.
