Starting Lineup
Last year Orlando was lucky enough to have possibly the worst starting PG and worst starting C in the league.
Now we are again lucky enough to have possibly the worst start period in Britton Johnson. I don't mind this guy being on the team and coming off the bench, but what the hell is Doc thinking starting this guy? He is avg'ing 2.5 pts, 2 asts, 1 reb a game shooting a healthy 20% from the field.
Come on Doc, get a clue. Stop starting rookies that aren't ready.
If we are going to keep Juwan and Gooden starting at PF/C, then I think we should start Lue, Williams, and Tmac. In the game against New Orleans, those 3 on the court together looked best. Otherwise, for goodness sakes, put Giricek in at SF.
I can hear the clock ticking on Doc's run in Orlando.

We can't start Lue and Williams. We'd have no PG off the bench. I agree that Doc is out of his mind starting Johnsen over Giricek, especially considering Giricek plays well only when he's around good players. Worst situation though is that Garrity starts when he comes back. Now that him and Giricek are both injured they don't even have much of a choice right now.

If it can't be Giricek or Garrity, then i'd prefer Harvey. At least he can play some defense and grab some rebounds.
I think Garrity will actually be a big help once he gets back. They've got nobody hitting those big 3s in the game and spreading the defense.

It would be better to start Harvey at small forward I think. One of the main reasons that Johnsen is starting is he doesn't look to score. The same goes for Harvey. He can also defend and rebound better than Johnsen. Giricek shouldn't start because the Magic need some offensive firepower off the bench. If Doc really doesn't want to start Harvey at small forward he could go with Hunter at center. He's another guy who isn't looking to shoot plus he's Orlando's best interior presence on defense.

I know, why does Doc start rookies that are undrafted and are clearly not ready? Look at Burke last year, had a couple of nice games, teams watched a couple of Magic games and knew how to stop him, he was a joke for the rest of the season and out the NBA.
I really don't think Doc knows how to develop young players at all. Hunter is athletic, his problem is that he doesn't understand the game, surely thats Doc's fault? Look at Gaines this year, doesn't even get the chance to prove himself as a PG in preseason and Doc is already saying he doesn't know whether he can play PG. Obviously he watches him at practice but the posters on here who followed Gaines in college all say he is far better at PG than SG and let's be honest, all the offense goes through T-Mac anyway so its not like he's going to have to be a traditional PG.

I thought people always said Doc gets the most out of his players.
You really think he is done in Orlando? I'm sure alot of teams would offer him a job, heck Floyd got a job this offseason.

I think Doc got a little more credit than he deserved for the "Heart and Hustle" season of 41-41. I really like Doc, but I think he has lost the power to inspire and fire up this team, which is really the main job of NBA head coaches these days.
Doc is a player's coach, but I think this team is more in need of someone like Jeff Van Gundy or Pat Riley, somebody to whip them into shape.
He has done a terrible job of evaluating talent and also developing the young guys we've had. Also made a lot of bad decisions, like starting every season with a rookie that was not ready, each time ending up benching the rookie and destroying their confidence.
I like Doc, but I think it is time for a change. Unfortunately, in this off-season, all the really good coaches just signed contracts.

weird were straarting hunter right now as he is probably our best shotblocker. junter in only averaging 5 ppg and 4 rpg. if he can average 6 rpg that would be great as we dont have to start howard as un undersized C and put GG and garrity off the bench for some scoring

Well, if Bogans keeps playing like that and Howard plays well off the bench at least we've solved that problem. Now if only they didn't take nap time in the 4th after leading the entire way.... everytime.
