Damn I knew it!!!!
The Magic will be really helped by this sign, Shawn Kemp is a big man, great size weight of like 280, 6-11, ok defender but a big body is a big body. Very good outside shooter from 15, has a nice post game and can create his own shot, and still has some athletic ability left. GREAT SIGN by Orlando, only problem is mentally but this might be his only chance to win a title ever again, and I think he will take advantage of it!
He will probably get around 5-12 points a game at the 4 and 5 spots. Could have 5 Kemp/ 4 Humphrey or 5 Hunter/ 4 Kemp or 5 Kemp. 4 Odyejyi........and it goes on

I think that orlando is careful and this signing might just help the Magic AND Kemp! I have always liked his game - when he was into the game. I think he'll like it in Orlando, where he doesn't have to carry the team, but can be a solid contributor, especially on the boards.
Good move for both Kemp and the Magic.

I like the fact they said he gets drug tested twice a week..
for only 1 million and change for one year, there is no way in hell Orlando could have gotten someone better..
And having guys around him like Darrel Armstrong, Grant Hill, and Doc Rivers can be nothing but good for Kemp..
apparently he came into Orlando at 310 lbs.. hopefully before and during the season he can drop 20-30 of those lbs.. Hell, being sober and at 290, he is probably a top 5 center in the East.

He will have the opportunity to shed those pounds with the way the Magic can run.
I am hopeful - not only for Kemp, but for the Magic to finally have someone who knows how to rebound and defend, when he has his mind on being into the game. I agree, he could be a top center in the east at 290, but I wouldn't mind him being 270 either(Zo was always 262)!

First article I read said he came in to the meeting with Magic at like 310.... yesterday I read that he looked like he was around last year's playing weight of around 280.
Sure would be nice if the second was true.
Barring injury, I think Kemp is gonna have a great year. His back is against the wall. If he doesnt get into shape and plays like crap this year, he'll probably be out of the league.

Kemp is still young enough and if he can get his mind off the drug thing and realize that this opportunity might be his last, both he and the Magic will be even more fun to watch this year. Kemp could be that help that TMac has needed these last 2 years! I am looking forward to watching them gel, especially if Hill is even at 80% of what he was before these last 2 injuries.

I year at veteran minimum, which is either 1.3 or 1.03 million.. dont remember which.
Not much of a risk.

Sounds to me that Kemp and his 280/290 lbs will be the starting center, with Horace at PF. Then Garrity and Humphrey will play backup minutes at SF or PF. Oyedeji, Hunter, and DeClerq will backup PF and C.
Kemp is obviously a true PF, but in today's NBA with only maybe 4 or 5 true centers in the league, Kemp should be alright playing C most of the time.
If Grant did it last year, Kemp should have no problem.
I'd like to see a lineup running with Hill at PG, Tmac at SG, Miller at SF, Garrity at PF and Kemp at C. That is a damn good scoring group and would be fun to watch. It would be pretty tough to double any of those guys.

But scoring from the bench would be difficult.
So i think garrity and miller should come off the bench.

I agree. I think that the starting lineup will be
PG Vaughn
SG Tmac
SF Hill
PF Grant
C Kemp
Bench - Armstrong, Miller, Garrity, Oyedeji, Humphrey
But I was just saying at some point I'd like to see that lineup.. the above is a pretty solid bench..

I was shocked that the Magic actually signed Kemp. Considering how much stock DeVos places in character and having good citizens on the Magic, I can't believe he signed a snow-blower who has 7 kids by 5 different women.
That being said, I think it's an outstanding move for the Magic. If Kemp can even show 75% of his former self, he'll be the Magic's best PF/C by far. I'll even go as far as saying that if Kemp can grab 9-10 boards a game and play solid defense, the Magic go from first-round losers to serious contenders for the Eastern Conference title. (Assuming Hill is healthy, of course)
If any of you guys ever listen to 740 The Team, I heard a great line there right after Kemp was released by the Blazers and before he had even had discussions with the Magic:
Shot Doctor- So how do you think Shawn Kemp would look in a Magic uniform?
Jerry O'Neil- Fat and wasted.
