Re: NFL Draft

Good drafts
Dallas
1 11(11) Demarcus Ware DE TROY STATE
1 20(20) Marcus Spears DE LOUISIANA STATE
2 10(42) Kevin Burnett OLB TENNESSEE
4 8(109) Marion Barber III RB MINNESOTA
4 31(132) Chris Canty DE VIRGINIA
6 34(208) Justin Beriault DS BALL STATE
6 35(209) Rob Petitti OT PITTSBURGH
7 10(224) Jay Ratliff DT AUBURN
Probably helped themselves the most in the draft, they are set to play the 3/4 right now. Ware I never saw him before the draft, but looking at the clips he seems like a real player, great bull rusher. Spears could play outside DE or cause problems as a DT and Burnett is a fine run stopping OLB with toughness. Barber was a good pickup at RB, he could have been a 2-3th round pick but got him in the 4th. Canty, another guy that can play the 3/4 and do it very well, Petitti is a talented lineman, underachiever but solid and Ratliff could be a great find late. He is a tough player and good pass rusher with long arms.

Miami
1 2(2) Ronnie Brown RB AUBURN
2 14(46) Matt Roth DE IOWA
3 6(70) Channing Crowder ILB FLORIDA
4 3(104) Travis Daniels DC LOUISIANA STATE
5 26(162) Anthony Alabi OT TEXAS CHRISTIAN
7 2(216) Kevin Vickerson DT MICHIGAN STATE
Very good draft, possibly got 3 1st round picks. Brown will do a great job, that is obvious, Roth will be a awesome DE for that team, teamed with Taylor they make two fine DE's. Crowder, he will be great for the Phins, he can play ILB or SLB, great tackler, wrestles pigs and is a very good find, has a ton of potential. Daniels, he could be a fine CB or FS, very talented, had a bad year last year but he is a solid player. Alabi is a good OT prospect and Vickerson is a tough inside guy. They did not get a ton of good players but Saban did a graet job in his first draft.

Minnesota
1 7(7) Troy Williamson WR SOUTH CAROLINA
1 18(18) Erasmus James DE WISCONSIN
2 17(49) Marcus Johnson OT MISSISSIPPI
3 16(80) Dustin Fox S OHIO STATE
4 11(112) Ciatrick Fason RB FLORIDA
6 17(191) C.J. Mosley DT MISSOURI
7 5(219) Adrian Ward DB TEXAS-EL PASO
Williamson was a very good pick, fits the team better even though its had to pass on Williams. James, I had him the #1 DE, great pass rusher, sure has injuries problems but he is very talented. Not as excited about Johnson, he is good but much rather have the road grader in Elton Brown. Fox was a suprise, could have got him 4-5th round, but he could be a solid FS. Fason was a fine pick, very good job getting him and hopefully they trade Bennett to get Smith, Moore and Fason the ball more. Mosely looks like a solid player, not great but could be ok.

Jacksonville
1 21(21) Matt Jones WR ARKANSAS
2 20(52) Khalif Barnes OT WASHINGTON
3 23(87) Scott Starks DC WISCONSIN
4 26(127) Alvin Pearman RB VIRGINIA
5 21(157) Gerald Sensabaugh DS NORTH CAROLINA
6 11(185) Chad Owens WR HAWAII
6 20(194) Pat Thomas ILB NORTH CAROLINA ST
7 23(237) Chris Roberson DC EASTERN MICHIGAN
Very good job drafting, they always do a good job. Jones, he is a solid pick, still say he plays TE but none the less a solid prospect. Barnes is a very good pickup, could start for them. Starks is a tough small CB, fast and plays the ball very well and has confidence. Pearman is a very good RB, great receiver and that is where he will do damage. Sensabaugh another fine pick, very talented SS and is a big time hitter. Owens is a solid WR for them as well, tough small, kind of like Travis McGriff but more athletic. Pat Thomas, I really like that pick, he is a agile OLB that can make plays.

Tennessee
1 6(6) Adam Jones CB WEST VIRGINIA
2 9(41) Michael Roos OT EASTERN WASHINGTON
3 4(68) Courtney Roby WR INDIANA
3 32(96) Brandon Jones WR OKLAHOMA
4 7(108) Vincent Fuller DC VIRGINIA TECH
4 12(113) David Stewart OT MISSISSIPPI STATE
4 35(136) Roydell Williams WR TULANE
5 6(142) Damien Nash RB MISSOURI
5 14(150) Daniel Loper OT TEXAS TECH
6 5(179) Bo Scaife TE TEXAS
7 4(218) Reynaldo Hill DC FLORIDA
Very good draft for them, Jones was a surprise pick but still is a very good selection. Fuller was a great find late at FS, he could really do well for them. The WR they did a fine job, not a huge fan of Jones but Roby is a flat out burner and will have a very good career, same with Williams, a big, long and fast WR that can make plays. Stewart was a solid pick as well at OT, Hill is a fine tough little CB and Scaife has a lot of ability as a pass catching TE. Only question pick is Nash, but one out of 11 is not bad.

Tampa Bay
1 5(5) Carnell Williams RB AUBURN
2 4(36) Barrett Ruud ILB NEBRASKA
3 7(71) Alex Smith TE STANFORD
3 27(91) Chris Colmer OT NORTH CAROLINA ST
4 6(107) Dan Buenning OG WISCONSIN
5 5(141) Donte Nicholson DS OKLAHOMA
5 19(155) Larry Brackins WR
6 4(178) Anthony Bryant DT ALABAMA
7 7(221) Rich Razzano FB MISSISSIPPI
7 11(225) Paris Warren WR UTAH
7 17(231) Hamza Abdullah DS WASHINGTON STATE
7 39(253) J.R. Russell 6-3 205 WR Louisville
Very good draft for them, Williams should start over Pittman this year, he is that talented. Ruud is a fine ILB pickup, they are lucky to get him, he is a very smart player and might challenge for the starting spot. Alex Smith another fine pass catching TE and will also have a chance to start over Dudley. Colmer and Buenning are two solid OL's, Nicholson is a fine pickup at FS late, he has a lot of ability. Really like the Bryant pick, he is just a huge player that is not slow either. Warren and Russell are also two fine pickups at WR, both with size and speed.

Detroit
1 10(10) Mike Williams WR USC
2 5(37) Shaun Cody DT USC
3 8(72) Stanley Wilson DC STANFORD
5 9(145) Dan Orlovsky QB CONNECTICUT
6 10(184) Bill Swancutt DE OREGON STATE
6 32(206) Jonathan Goddard DE MARSHALL
7 9(223) Marcus Maxwell WR OREGON
Another very good draft for them, Williams is a great pick because he is the best player there and will make them dangerous, got a steal in Cody as well, he could start at DT or DE. Wilson is a solid CB but I really like the pick of Orlovsky, and they got him late as well which was surprising. Swancutt is a fine pass rusher and so is Goddard, I really like both those players, very good pass rushers and they could also play OLB.

Arizona
1 8(8) Antrel Rolle CB MIAMI (FLA.)
2 12(44) JJ Arrington RB CALIFORNIA
3 11(75) Eric Green DC VIRGINIA TECH
3 31(95) Darryl Blackstock OLB VIRGINIA
4 10(111) Elton Brown OG VIRGINIA
5 32(168) Lance Mitchell ILB OKLAHOMA
7 12(226) LeRon McCoy WR INDIANA (PA.)
Got a lot of solid players, Rolle is a great tackler, wonderful CB they got. Arrington was a fine pick, good speed and quickness. Green was a solid CB they picked, he is tough and knows how to tackle, Blackstock was a flat steal for them late, very good player and they got another steal in Brown, a crushing OG that is nasty. Mitchell is a ok LB prospect as well to pickup.

St. Louis
1 19(19) Alex Barron OT FLORIDA STATE
2 18(50) Ronald Bartell Jr CB HOWARD
3 2(66) Oshiomogho Atogwe S STANFORD
3 17(81) Richie Incognito C NEBRASKA
4 16(117) Jerome Carter S FLORIDA STATE
4 33(134) Claude Terrell OG NEW MEXICO
5 8(144) Jerome Collins TE NOTRE DAME
6 18(192) Dante Ridgeway WR BALL STATE
6 36(210) Reggie Hodges P BALL STATE
7 36(250) David Bergeron 6-4 245 MLB Stanford
7 37(251) Madison Hedgecock 6-3 260 TE North Carolina
Filled needs, Barron is a good solid selection for them, and Bartell looks like a very talented CB with size and speed. Atogwe is a solid SS they got, might not start but is a physical force. Really like the Incognito pick, he is a fine player with a ton of ability. Carter at 4th was a bit high, he is not a great SS just ok one. Ridgeway could be a flat out steal for them as well, very good speed, tough and runs good routes and can make plays after he catches the ball.

Sleeper drafts
Philadelphia
1 31(31) Mike Patterson DT USC
2 3(35) Reggie Brown WR GEORGIA
2 31(63) Matt McCoy OLB SAN DIEGO STATE
3 13(77) Ryan Moats RB LOUISIANA TECH
4 1(102) Sean Considine S IOWA
4 25(126) Todd Herremans OT SAGINAW VALLEY
5 10(146) Trent Cole DE CINCINNATI
5 36(172) Scott Young OG BRIGHAM YOUNG
6 37(211) Calvin Armstrong OT WASHINGTON STATE
7 33(247) Hamza Abdullah 6-3 209 S SR* Washington State
7 38(252) Keyonta Marshall 6-1 290 DT SR Grand Valley State
Not many great players outside of Patterson, he will be a stud for them. Brown was a solid pick at WR, McCoy looks good and is a tough tackler, Moats is another solid selection as well. Considine was a special teams pick who is solid, Cole is another OLB that can pass rush as ewll. Also Young and Amrstrong are two solid late OL's to pick up.

Baltimore
1 22(22) Mark Clayton WR OKLAHOMA
2 21(53) Dan Cody DE OKLAHOMA
2 32(64) Adam Terry OT SYRACUSE
4 23(124) Jason Brown OC NORTH CAROLINA
5 22(158) Justin Green FB MONTANA
6 39(213) Derek Anderson QB OREGON STATE
7 20(234) Mike Smith LB TEXAS TECH
Very good draft for them as always. Clayton I was surprised they picked him but he is a game breaker and great after the catch. Cody is lucky he is on a team that runs a 3/4, he will play OLB which is a lot better for him, he is a powerful hitter but weak at the point of attack so he could do well as a OLB. Terry and Brown are two fine OL's to pick up, very good job there and Anderson is a extremely talented QB if you minus the INT's.

New England
1 32(32) Logan Mankins OG FRESNO STATE
3 20(84) Ellis Hobbs DC IOWA STATE
3 36(100) Nick Kaczur OG TOLEDO
4 32(133) James Sanders DS FRESNO STATE
5 34(170) Ryan Claridge OLB NEVADA LAS VEGAS
7 16(230) Matt Cassel QB USC
7 41(255) Andy Stokes 0-1 250 TE SR William Penn
Sleeper picks here but still solid. I really like Mankins, he is tough and aggressive as a OG or C. Hobbs is a solid player and has good feet as well. Sanders is a solid pickup at SS, he can move around, cover and tackle. Claridge is a good pick as well because he can stop the run and has good size.

Pittsburgh
1 30(30) Heath Miller TE VIRGINIA
2 30(62) Bryant McFadden DC FLORIDA STATE
3 29(93) Trai Essex OT NORTHWESTERN
4 30(131) Fred Gibson WR GEORGIA
5 30(166) Rian Wallace ILB TEMPLE
6 30(204) Chris Kemoeatu OG UTAH
7 14(228) Shaun Nua DE BRIGHAM YOUNG
7 30(244) Noah Herron 5-11 230 FB
Miller, they are so lucky they got him, simply a fine player that will have a great year next year. McFadden is a solid CB to pick up, Gibson a gamble WR but he has a lot of talent as a player. Kemoeatu is said to be a tough OG so thats always a good fit, and Herron is a interesting pickup late, but is a power runner that could play FB or RB.

Oakland
1 23(23) Fabian Washington CB NEBRASKA
2 6(38) Stanford Routt CB HOUSTON
3 5(69) Andrew Walter QB ARIZONA STATE
3 14(78) Kirk Morrison ILB SAN DIEGO STATE
6 1(175) Anttaj Hawthorne DT WISCONSIN
6 38(212) Ryan Riddle DE CALIFORNIA
6 40(214) Pete Mcmahon OT IOWA
All depends on the CB's, Washington is fast but never liked his on the field production at Nebraska, and Routt is just a speed guy same thing with Washington, but time will tell. They did a great job getting Walter, a young QB that they need, Morrison was a solid pickup also, very talented. Hawthorne was a steal for them obviously. Riddle is a good pass rusher as well and I really like McMahon, he is very skill and moves well as a OT.

New Orleans
1 13(13) Jammal Brown OT OKLAHOMA
2 8(40) Josh Bullocks DS NEBRASKA
3 18(82) Alfred Fincher ILB CONNECTICUT
4 17(118) Chase Lyman WR CALIFORNIA
5 16(152) Adrian McPherson QB FLORIDA STATE
6 19(193) Jason Jefferson DT WISCONSIN
7 18(232) Jimmy Verdon DE ARIZONA STATE
Solid draft, Brown will fill a need and so will Bullocks. Fincher is a very solid pickup, strong tough LB. Lyman was probably the only question mark pick, I never thought he was that good, Jefferson was a solid pick though at DT late and the key is McPerson. They could have a real gem with him.

Carolina
1 14(14) Thomas Davis S GEORGIA
2 22(54) Eric Shelton RB LOUISVILLE
3 15(79) Evan Mathis OG ALABAMA
3 25(89) Atiyyah Ellison DT MISSOURI
4 20(121) Stefan LeFors QB LOUISVILLE
5 13(149) Adam Seward ILB NEVADA LAS VEGAS
5 33(169) Geoff Hangartner C TEXAS A&M
5 35(171) Ben Emanuel Ii S UCLA
6 15(189) Jovan Haye DE VANDERBILT
6 33(207) Joe Berger OG MICHIGAN TECH
They did a good job, Davis is a player for them and could be a terror at OLB. Shelton was a good RB to pickup, gives good power for them and Mathis is a solid OG to take as well. LeFors was a very good pick for them late, he is a good young QB to build around and best part about him is his character. Emanuel is another solid pick for them as well, he has a lot of potential and Haye is solid to.

Weak drafts
Green Bay
1 24(24) Aaron Rodgers QB CALIFORNIA
2 19(51) Nick Collins DC BETHUNE-COOKMAN
2 26(58) Terrence Murphy WR TEXAS A&M
4 14(115) Marviel Underwood DS SAN DIEGO STATE
4 24(125) Brady Poppinga DE BRIGHAM YOUNG
5 7(143) Junius Coston OC NORTH CAROLINA A&T
5 31(167) Michael Hawkins CB OKLAHOMA
6 6(180) Mike Montgomery DT TEXAS A&M
6 21(195) Craig Bragg WR UCLA
7 31(245) Kurt Campbell 6-1 225 S SR Albany State (N.Y.)
7 32(246) William Whitticker 6-6 317 OG SR Michigan State
Sure they got solid players, Rodgers, I like him, he is a good QB and Green Bay needs one for the future so why not now. Collins, that is a huge stretch, saw clips of him, not very impressed. Murphy is a fine WR talent, very good pick I like him and Bragg was a solid selection as well. But other than those 3, very weak draft, a lot of players that most have no idea who they are, and there is a reason for that. Very poor draft by the Packers, unless they know something everyone else doesn't.

Buffalo
2 23(55) Roscoe Parrish WR MIAMI (FLA.)
3 22(86) Kevin Everett TE MIAMI (FLA.)
4 21(122) Raymond Preston OC ILLINOIS
5 20(156) Eric King DC WAKE FOREST
6 23(197) Justin Geisinger OG VANDERBILT
7 22(236) Lionel Gates RB LOUISVILLE
Parrish was a good player but I am not sure if he is really that great, Everett is solid and gives them a good TE. But King at CB is nothing amazing and same with the rest of their picks. Not a very good draft for them.

Kansas City
1 15(15) Derrick Johnson OLB TEXAS
3 35(99) Dustin Colquitt PT TENNESSEE
4 15(116) Craphonso Thorpe WR FLORIDA STATE
5 2(138) James Grigsby ILB ILLINOIS STATE
5 11(147) Alphonso Hodge CB MIAMI (OHIO)
6 13(187) Will Svitek OT STANFORD
6 25(199) Khari Long DE BAYLOR
7 15(229) James Kilian QB TULSA
7 24(238) Jeremy Parquet OT SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI
Outside of the top 4 picks, its a weak draft. Johnson was a very good pickup, he will do fine for them, Colquitt was solid as well because he is a great player. Thorpe I can see it, he is talented and fast, also Grigsby is a solid LB, but the rest its not to good. A lot of un proven talent in those later picks, might be solid but for the most part they could have done better in the late rounds.

Texans
1 16(16) Travis Johnson DT FLORIDA STATE
3 9(73) Vernand Morency RB OKLAHOMA STATE
4 13(114) Jerome Mathis WR HAMPTON
5 15(151) Lincoln Hodgdon OC ARIZONA STATE
6 14(188) Ceandris Brown DS LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE
7 13(227) Kenneth Pettway OLB GRAMBLING
Not a horrible draft, I like Mornecy and Mathis will kill at WR, he is so fast he will do a wonderful job. But outside of them they do not have a great draft. Johnson is a solid player but who knows if he will be great or just average, he only was really great one year. And the later picks are not very solid for them.

Chicago
1 4(4) Cedric Benson RB TEXAS
2 7(39) Mark Bradley WR OKLAHOMA
4 5(106) Kyle Orton QB PURDUE
5 4(140) Airese Currie WR CLEMSON
6 7(181) Chris Harris DS LOUISIANA MONROE
7 6(220) Rodriques Wilson DS SOUTH CAROLINA
Not a horrible draft, don't get me wrong but not a great one. They might like Benson but I don't think he is anything special at all. Bradley surprised me with his clips, he looked like a bigger version of Clayton. But Orton, not a huge fan of him, there were better QB's there. Currie is a solid pick for them though I will give them that but that was their only good late pick. The other guys are nothing amazing. They had a solid draft but I would not say it was a very good draft with very talented players.

Denver
2 24(56) Darrent Williams CB OKLAHOMA STATE
3 12(76) Karl Paymah CB WASHINGTON STATE
3 33(97) Domonique Foxworth CB MARYLAND
3 37(101) Maurice Clarett RB OHIO STATE
6 26(200) Chris Myers OG MIAMI (FLA.)
7 25(239) Paul Ernster K NORTHERN ARIZONA
They are lucky they got Clarett, because outside of him and Williams they draft is not that good. Clarett was a fine pickup and Williams will be great for them as a nickle CB and a fine return man with great potential. Paymah, honestly I think they just picked him because of his 40 time. Foxworth is a solid CB but stiff and might of been picked to high. Myers is ok but nothing great either. So everyone is ripping on the fact they drafted Clarett, but actually its good they did.

San Diego
1 12(12) Shawne Merriman OLB MARYLAND
1 28(28) Luis Castillo DT NORTHWESTERN
2 29(61) Vincent Jackson WR NORTHERN COLORADO
4 29(130) Darren Sproles RB KANSAS STATE
5 28(164) Wesley Britt OT ALABAMA
6 3(177) Wes Sims OG OKLAHOMA
7 28(242) Scott Mruczkowski OC BOWLING GREEN
Got some very good players in Merriman and Sproles but not much else. Jackson is a project, could be great or could be nothing, and I dislike the Castillo pick, Cody was much better than him as a DT and Castillo should not of been picked that high. Britt is a solid OT, he is tough and a ok pick, same with Sims. But Castillo and Jackson might of been a stretch I think for them to take those two players that high.

Re: NFL Draft

Small school prospects I just recently saw tape on, I am impressed. Really wish I could see more games with players from small schools more often.

Shawne Merriman: Very good player for the 3/4, goes one speed and that is full speed all the time. Very hard hitter, good run stopper. Is a little bit stiff and does not get off blocks well, but he is quick and fast straight ahead. Good tackler and hits people with power. Should be a fine player for San Deigo.

Demarcus Ware: Ware is flat out amazing to watch on tape, he is so fast and quick. He is easily the best bull rusher in the draft, he just kills people with raw power and force. He is not short, but he is compact, very hard to block because he gets low to the ground and can really push the OT backward. Is a very dangerous pass rusher and the Cowboys could have a future pro bowler on their hands.

Roddy White: Very good pickup at WR, he has nice size and speed obviously. Really seperates from the competition and is a very smooth runner in the open field. Not very physically strong but with his long arms and good speed he is a real dangerous deep threat. He has the potential to be a fine target for Vick in the future, and is a great backup plan for Price if he does not turn around his play.

Vincent Jackson: He is a huge kid at 6-6 230, just a giant kid with amazing speed for a player that size. He made the competition he played against really look like boys. He is very skilled, very fluid a has worlds of potential. He could either become a great WR ala Terrell Owens with less strength or he could just be average like Calico has been so far.

Ronald Bartell Jr.: Very skilled CB, has great size and looks very fluid on the football field. Seems to have good agility, nice hips and is a playmaker at the CB position. He could be a very fine CB in the NFL I think, has a ton of potential. Will be a starting CB on the Rams soon.

Michael Roos: Very impressive OT, he has very good athletic ability for a player his size. Great out of his stance, very quick feet and backpedals nicely. He has very good power as well, does not get pushed around, he is the one doing the pushing most of the time. With his size and his quick feet he will be a fine OT on the Titans.

Kirk Morrison: Very powerful hitter at ILB, has a ton of potential as a play maker. Is a active player that knows how to tackle and tackle with force. Good quickness and speed, is a true battering ram on the football field. Does not get off of blocks well and is not very quick, but is a solid prospect that could turn into a fine NFL player. Good pickup by the Raiders.

Jerome Mathis: This kid is ridiclously fast, he is a flat out burner. He could be a kick return machine with his great speed. Can't say enough about his world class speed on the football field, even though he was against really poor competition in college, he still made those players look really bad. It was not uncommon for him to have 20 yards between himself and the DB's. Mathis could make the Texans draft, he is very talented and if he just proves he can be a complete WR he could be amazing in the NFL. Fastest player in the draft also I believe.

Brandon Jacobs: Huge back, can just run people over with pure speed and power. Pretty good quickness, is not just a straight line runner, he has some moves to his game. Very good size and has great speed for a man 260 pounds. If Greg Jones can have success as a short yardage player Jacobs will for sure. Is a real tank as a running back and is a very good pickup for the Giants.

Eric Ghiaciuc: Is a very good center, is a fine athlete and can really move around. On running plays he is good at chipping on the line, then moving down and getting on a OLB or ILB down the field. He is a strong kid, very quick, moves really well. He is very good at turning his man, opening up a hole and he finishes blocks as well. Very good find for the Bengals right there.

Roydell Williams: He is a big fluid athlete that can make plays on the outside. Very good after the catch running the football and gets in and out of cuts smoothly. He has long arms and good size, but he does not run like a big WR, he is very quick and smooth on the field. Catches the ball with ease and if put in the right system he could succeed.

Kerry Rhodes: This guy is really good, Jets got a flat out steal right there. He is a huge kid, great size and can really hit. Plays the game fast, is not afraid to sacrifice his body, is a big time hitter. He also is a solid ball hawk, knows how to go after the football and makes plays, simply as that. Has long arms, is quick and runs well. Honestly looks like a skinny less athletic version of Sean Taylor. Great player right here, real find in the 4th round for the Jets.

Adam Seward: This is a ILB that just flys to the football, very instinctive player that is always around the action. Has good speed as a ILB, is not slow and has a very good solid build. Is a fine combination of size and speed, when he tackles he brings a punch as well, very powerful hitter that drives through the ball carries. Great find for the Panthers.

Dante Ridgeway: Very skilled WR, he runs very good routes and is just a flat out playmaker. Is not a very big kid but he plays very hard as a WR. Does not go down easy, is looking for contact actually and runs very hard. Is good at breaking tackles and running after the catch, he is also good at changing direction and getting past defenders. On the move he is very hard to bring down, he does not go down without a fight and I really like that about him. It is a tough deep threat and his toughness is one of the best parts about him. Could be the next young Rams star WR.

Chad Owens: Is a small WR but he is tough and can catch the ball. Is a safe WR to throw it to, has good hands and runs good routes. Reminds me of Fred McGriff a little big, but Owens is more athletic than McGriff was. He is a solid player, doubt he will be great but he is a very interesting prospect as a short yardage WR that can make hard catches in small spaces.

Joel Dreessen: He runs like a WR, I am telling ya', very fluid athlete for a TE. Moves very well, has good feet, is agile and stays on his feet well. He has good speed also, can stretch the field and really make plays down the field with his receiving ability. Only question is his blocking ability, but in pure pass catching skills, he is a fine prospect, I never thought he would be this good but he is.

Re: NFL Draft

I was not high on Atlanta's draft, but now I am liking it alot better.

1.) I thought we were going to draft a defensive linemen like Shaun Cody instead of a WR, but the more you think about it and the more you look at the rest of the draft, the more the Roddy pick makes sense. I think Atlanta's thinking is that they will develop Roddy slowly like they did with Jenkins. And then after this season is over, Dez White & Peerless Price will not be back. By 2006, Mike Jenkins & Roddy White will be the starting wide outs and by then they are hoping that Vick will have a much better understanding of their new offense. I don't mean to be a homer, but the thought of Vick with those WR's & him knowing the offense like the back of his hand, that's a scary thought.

2.) I liked the Babineaux pick alot. He showed flashes of Rod Coleman from the clips that ESPN showed. I doubt he'll start much, but DT is a position that you like to rotate guys in and out to keep them fresh. Depth at that position is very important, so this pick made alot of sense.

3.) Beck, yeah, I don't know much about this guy but he does add team speed alot.

4.) I did not like the Chauncey Davis draft. Not familiar with him, but if you wanted a pass rushing DE why not get Jovan Haye? I was very high on him, and he was dropping like a stone. He is athletic though, so he is good depth to have for insurance in the case of injury.

5.) Michael Boley. He's a name I remember seeing. I don't know much about him, but his name is familiar so he must've been considered a good prospect at one time. OZZY, you know anything on him?

6&7.) These types rarely make the roster anyway, not really worth dissecting for me.

Yeah he is very talented, did not play great last year so that was his downfall. I think he is better than the other Southern Miss LB in Rod Davis, he is faster and more athletic than Davis is. Boley is a good pass rusher, a little raw but a solid late pick, he had the potential to be a 1st round pick. He will be good as a OLB/DE for them, he is a solid player.

Re: NFL Draft

Sneak preview to next year

Quarterback: Some pretty nice talent here. I know Leinart is an elite talent. I think Leak could reach that level, just look what Urban did for #1 pick Alex Smith. McNeal has dream size & mobility for the NFL, but no way should his team be losing to cream puffs like Baylor, that's got to change. Whitehurst is a prototype QB, good arm & is tall, but he needs to get his mind into it. Russell reminds me a little bit of Culpepper. He has great accuracy, strength, mobility, size, etc. He should have been the full-time starter last year.
1. Matt Leinart
2. Omar Jacobs
3. Chris Leak
4. Reggie McNeal
5. Charlie Whitehurst
6. Drew Tate
7. JaMarcus Russell
8. Jared Zebransky
9. Vince Young
10. Brady Quinn

Tailback: The first three look like potential high NFL picks, the others are pretty good but not as talented as Bush-Maroney-DeLo.
1. Reggie Bush
2. Laurence Maroney
3. DeAngelo Williams
4. LenDale White
5. Leon Washington
6. Gerald Riggs Jr.
7. P.J. Daniels
8. Lorenzo Booker
9. Alley Broussard
10. Joseph Addai

Receiver: Pretty weak group overall. Holmes is a better return man than a receiver. I am looking for some break out seasons from the LSU, Florida, & Miami WR's. Don't sleep on Dwayne Bowe, he's awesome. Does not have enough speed to be a #1 guy. But he has great hands, and is a huge target.
1. Todd Watkins
2. Santonio Holmes
3. Derek Hagan
4. Martin Nance
5. Greg Lee
6. Chad Jackson
7. Dwayne Bowe
8. Steve Smith
9. Andre Caldwell
10. Ryan Moore

Tight End: Leonard Pope is the truth, y'all. Honestly, I do not think of myself of as big a homer as some posters on this site but I am going to be hyping this kid up all off-season and then all season, he's the real deal. I would take him over 3/4 of the TE's in the NFL, right now. Dead serious, kid is going to blow up. Lewis is also an elite receiving TE. The rest are so so.
1. Leonard Pope
2. Mercedes Lewis
3. Dominique Byrd
4. Matt Herian
5. Tim Day
6. Joe Newton
7. Anthony Fasano
8. T.J. Williams
9. Vernon Davis
10. Matt Trannon

Offensive Line: Wow, ton of talent here. Amazing, really. #1-6 all could go very high in the first round with a good college season. That's incredible, really.
1. Eric Winston
2. Marcus McNeil
3. D'Brickashaw Ferguson
4. Justin Blalock
5. Jonathan Scott
6. Winston Justice
7. Andrew Whitworth
8. Max Jean-Gilles
9. Greg Eslinger
10. Davin Joseph

Defensive Line: A good number of elite pass rushing ends this year. And alot of great tackles, as well. Don't sleep on Mahelona, he doesn't have much hype yet but watch out, take notice. He is for real, always making plays in the backfield whenever I see him play. Over 300lbs. and has great quickness.
1. Mathias Kiwanuka
2. Mario Williams
3. Gabe Watson
4. Jesse Mahelona
5. Eric Henderson
6. Rodrique Wright
7. Stanley McClover
8. Baraka Atkins
9. Orien Harris
10. Manuel Wright

Linebacker: Good talent at the LB spot. #1-4 could all be very high first round picks, with a good college season I believe. Also some very nice depth, and I still didn't have room to include some other good ones.
1. A.J. Hawk
2. Chad Greenway
3. Ahmad Brooks
4. Abdul Hodge
5. Freddie Roach
6. Spencer Havner
7. Anthony Schlegal
8. Roger McIntosh
9. Will Derting
10. DeMeco Ryans

Defensive Back:
Obviously, talent here does not have alot of depth but #1-4 are all studs. Very impressive.
1. Devin Hester
2. Antonio Cromartie
3. LaRon Landry
4. Jimmy Williams
5. Jason Allen
6. Michael Huff
7. Charles Gordon
8. Kelly Jennings
9. Will Blackmon
10. Jerred Page

Vince Young will not play Qb and the #2 QB that probably could be one of the best, Bruce Gradkowski is not on the list, he is easly #2 or #3. Russell, he is still raw as hell, no way would he be a high pick next year unless he played really well. Zabransky also I think is much better than Whitehurst, and you underate Tate big time.

I do consider you to be a major homer But that aside, Herian, Lewis, Byrd, Fasano are just as good if not better than Pope. Pope is impressive but lets see what he does when teams know what he can do and know he is good.

Not a horrible list, but how about you credit where you got all of the names from? Sure you can rank them, but how did you compile this list? And where is Darnell Bing? Where is AJ Nicholson? Where is Clinton Soloman on the WR list, that kid is a player. And Ryne Robinson is going to be a great WR prospect in the future, could go the Deion Branch route, go unnoticed in college and be a great pro.

I would almost take Stanley McClover over Mario Williams anyday. McClover is awesome at DE. And I think Antwan Allen is way better than Jason Allen.

D. Rhodes and W. Lundy will be two very good RB picks as well.

Also where is McDonald and Thomas, obviously you have seen them, they are great DT's, they should be on the list.

Also I think Matt Trannon is going to play WR in the NFL, he is not 240, he is about 220 or 230 so he will be good, and honestly on the football field he looks pretty skinny.

Re: NFL Draft

I included Hodge in my ranking. AJ Nicholson was an oversight, I would put him at #5 ahead of Roach. Darnell Bing is another oversight, I would put him after Jimmy Williams. Who are Clinton Solomon & Ryne Robinson? Honestly, never heard of either of them.

McClover over Super Mario? I do not know about that. Williams has been on the scene for a good two seasons now, and McClover did not break out until last season. They are both pretty good, but I give the edge to Williams because he's had more than one good season.

Damien Rhodes? The Syracuse back? Walter Rhodes was their starter last year, so who knows how good he will be. Wali Lundy is a nice, versatile back but he doesn't do one thing great. Just does alot of things okay. He is a pretty solid back, IMO.

The Florida tackles have a lot of talent, but since I combined End & Tackle on my rankings they just got left out. If I did a seperate top ten, then they almost definately would have been included.

I thought Trannon lined up at TE for them last season?

As for my sources: You are right, I should credit them. Like a bibliography.

http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/footballMenu.html
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/statistics

For Offensive Line, I knew them all by memory. The same for the defensive players, but I used passing/rushing/receiving yardage to assist me when I was rounding out the bottom of my top ten lists for the offense skill positions.

Re: NFL Draft

Not while I was making my list.

All the players I mentioned are either well known, played in a BCS conference, or both. I did not include many small school sleepers, if at all.

Re: NFL Draft

9. Vince Young- Why can Vincent Young play QB in the NFL. Isn't his best ability running the football and not throwing. He is 6-6 230, fast, long arms and would be much better WR than QB, why wouldn't he play WR?

2. Laurence Maroney- I have seen him a lot obviously, but why do you think he is a good player, what does he do?

2. Santonio Holmes- you really think he is that good, heck he is not even a top 10 WR in college next year, no where close.

4. Martin Nance- Ryne Robinson is better than him as a WR, on the same team, Nance better have a good year next season though.

6. Chad Jackson- Isn't this a little high, I would take Caldwell over Jackson anyday, but honestly I doubt Caldwell will go out, if they are both underclassmen which I think they are, they will not leave unless they have problems with the coach.

10. Ryan Moore- He sucked last year, he really has to get good for his sake.

1. Leonard Pope- problem with Pope, he can't block that well and he is physically skinny. If you want to take a combo blocker and pass catcher Fasano is the man. And vertically Lewis is a better deep threat then Pope.

You also forgot Olsen on Miami, he is a damn good talent, huge kid that can run.

Also if you stopped talking constantly about Pope, you would have mentioned that this is one of the best TE drafts in a very long time. It is flat out stacked and that also hurts Pope in his stock. And honestly, he blew up last year, now everyone knows who he is.

Where is Jones on LSU? He is a solid TE.

1. Eric Winston- standard pick, remember I did mention him a long long time ago in my 2004-2005 all America team, even before he made the move from TE to OT.
http://www.basketballboards.net/foru...hlight=winston

8. Max Jean-Gilles- He was bad last year, did not impress me as much as he did at OT, he played ok at OG not great.

3. Gabe Watson- Watson has never had a great yera, this is his last chance, been talking about him for 3 years, and he better turn out eventually. Q. Pitcock was much more impressive in the Big Ten than Watson.

6. Rodrique Wright- No way is he this low, he is the best DT without question, great pass rusher, agile, if he would have went out as a JR he would have been the first DT picked easy. No way is he this low.

5. Freddie Roach- He is a good player but this is a little high, he has talent but not that much.

9. Will Derting- think he should be higher than that, he is a tackling machine, no way is Roach better than him.

10. DeMeco Ryans- he is a ok OLB, has some potential to be a player, nice talent.

3. LaRon Landry- Tell me what makes Landry so great besides the fact he plays in the SEC. Honestly what makes him better than Bing? He is a good player but I would not say great.

8. Kelly Jennings- he is a average CB big time, no way should he be this high. He has good hips, but so did Aric Williams and he never got drafted. We will see how he performs this year.

Re: NFL Draft

9. Vince Young- Why can Vincent Young play QB in the NFL. Isn't his best ability running the football and not throwing. He is 6-6 230, fast, long arms and would be much better WR than QB, why wouldn't he play WR? Maybe, maybe not. I think he can improve on his passing alot this year. He's no Vick, but he is a better QB than other past mobile QB's like Stewart & Carter.

2. Laurence Maroney- I have seen him a lot obviously, but why do you think he is a good player, what does he do? Um, he gets ALOT of yards. Is that good enough? He put up amazing #'s despite sharing the backfield with Barber. The fact he has good speed assures him he'll be a feature back on the next level.

2. Santonio Holmes- you really think he is that good, heck he is not even a top 10 WR in college next year, no where close. He is not a #1 WR, but he is still pretty good. He's very good with yards after the catch, but his primary function is a returnman. Guys who can do both are important to teams I believe. Means you don't have to waste a roster spot on a guy who can only return kicks and do nothing else.

4. Martin Nance- Ryne Robinson is better than him as a WR, on the same team, Nance better have a good year next season though. Nance didn't play at all last year due to an injury. Watch him return to old form in 05.

6. Chad Jackson- Isn't this a little high, I would take Caldwell over Jackson anyday, but honestly I doubt Caldwell will go out, if they are both underclassmen which I think they are, they will not leave unless they have problems with the coach. Chad & Andre will be Juniors this year. If they have great years, of course they should come out. And why shouldn't they have great years? Meyer prefers the pass over the run, they'll have big years IMO.

10. Ryan Moore- He sucked last year, he really has to get good for his sake. He dropped too many balls, but he obviously has talent. You can not give up on a guy that talented because of 1 bad year. He still has a chance to redeem himself.

1. Leonard Pope- problem with Pope, he can't block that well and he is physically skinny. If you want to take a combo blocker and pass catcher Fasano is the man. And vertically Lewis is a better deep threat then Pope. The new trend in the NFL seems to be to go after guys who can catch the ball. You can teach blocking technique, IMO. Pope is a better prospect than McMichael, IMO, and I view McMichael as one of the 3 best TE in the NFL.

You also forgot Olsen on Miami, he is a damn good talent, huge kid that can run. Is he three years removed from HS? I thought he'll be an RS Fr. this year.

Also if you stopped talking constantly about Pope, you would have mentioned that this is one of the best TE drafts in a very long time. It is flat out stacked and that also hurts Pope in his stock. And honestly, he blew up last year, now everyone knows who he is. Pope had a great 2nd half of the season, but I doubt people outside the South even know who he is.

Where is Jones on LSU? He is a solid TE. He is solid, but in terms of receiving ability he is not in the same league as the others.

1. Eric Winston- standard pick, remember I did mention him a long long time ago in my 2004-2005 all America team, even before he made the move from TE to OT.
http://www.basketballboards.net/foru...hlight=winston Congrats on the observation.

8. Max Jean-Gilles- He was bad last year, did not impress me as much as he did at OT, he played ok at OG not great. I thought he played good. He'll be a day one pick in 2006, for sure. His future is at guard, not tackle. Doesn't have the speed to handle these freak DE's.

3. Gabe Watson- Watson has never had a great yera, this is his last chance, been talking about him for 3 years, and he better turn out eventually. Q. Pitcock was much more impressive in the Big Ten than Watson. Really? Whenever I saw him he was dominating. Even double and triple teams couldn't handle him.

6. Rodrique Wright- No way is he this low, he is the best DT without question, great pass rusher, agile, if he would have went out as a JR he would have been the first DT picked easy. No way is he this low. Maybe you are right, I think he has a lot of undeserved hype, I need to see more production out of him to consider him an elite prospect.

5. Freddie Roach- He is a good player but this is a little high, he has talent but not that much. He's part of the reason why Alabama had such a strong defense last season, and will have one again this season.

9. Will Derting- think he should be higher than that, he is a tackling machine, no way is Roach better than him. Derting was god awful last season. He needs to return to how he played his Soph. year.

10. DeMeco Ryans- he is a ok OLB, has some potential to be a player, nice talent. Agreed.

3. LaRon Landry- Tell me what makes Landry so great besides the fact he plays in the SEC. Honestly what makes him better than Bing? He is a good player but I would not say great. Bing is all flash, all hype. Landry is a playmaker, makes bigger plays than Bing could ever dream of. I'll tell you that right now.

8. Kelly Jennings- he is a average CB big time, no way should he be this high. He has good hips, but so did Aric Williams and he never got drafted. We will see how he performs this year. He is a very solid but unspectacular DB. Like I said, there is not great depth at DB but he's at the bottom of my list and still he's a pretty solid player.
