UCLA is going to have a long year. They still have talent, but Washington is going to be the team to beat unless something happens during the season (chemistry, injuries).
Abdul Gaddy and Isiah Thomas are going to be fun the watch in Romar's backcourt.
they sure are stacked at the guard position. loss of brockman a big deal?
To me it is, because they have nobody to replace him and would be the clear pick to win the conference with him.
Romar is already talking about running a small unit, putting Pondexter at PF and playing 3 guards. It might work against certain teams or for short spurts, but that leaves them with no rebouding. I still think UW finishes top 2 in the Pac-10 regardless.
SN: We haven't seen you play for a year. What will you, personally, do better?
AS: I spent the whole year working on my post moves, my offensive game, my jumpers -- redefining my offense, getting it to the level I want it to be. I've been in the weight room, too. I wanted to better myself in any way I could to help the team.
Yeah im sure hes been working hard, especially since coming home to So Cal, however I dont think he was too happy with the Floyd situation and pretty much getting stuck in the mess that is SC.
Yeah, the ability to have a connection right off the bat with most of those guys really helped his recruiting over the spring. Solomon Hill was coming regardless, but being able to win over Momo Jones, Parrom, and Derrick Williams has allowed the talk of 26 straight again. No way UA makes the tournament without guys like Jones and Williams.
This season is rock bottom for the Pac-10 which means a turnaround is near. While the league should start moving forward in 2010-2011 (much like the SEC is doing this year), many teams battling mediocrity in the Pac-10 will stay static or drop-off.
1. Abdul Gaddy has 2 stay for 2 years, beacuse he wont be old enough to enter the draft.
2. I think its safe to say UA has already moved forward, before even opening the season (thanks to recruiting)
3. ASU's 2010 class isnt outstanding, but bringing in King definitely will help a lot.
4. I think SC could still turn out a decent year. They still have a good amount of talent despite the turmoil. Dwight Lewis is scary.
LOS ANGELES (AP)—UCLA fans will need to check their programs this season. With four starters gone from last season’s team that finished 26-9, the Bruins have plenty of new faces.
Wise, a 6-foot-1 sophomore guard from Houston, Texas, joins the program after playing the 2007-08 season at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz. He averaged 10.7 points, 3.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game in 30 appearances (17 starts). Wise shot 49.3 percent from the field (112-of-227) and led the Aztecs in scoring five times that season, including a career-high 29 points.
Prior to attending Pima Community College, Wise was a three-year letterwinner at Kingwood High School, earning all-district honors as a senior. In his three years with the Kingwood varsity, Wise was part of a program that won a state title (2005) and finished as the runner-up twice (2006, 2007).
Wise will be reunited with his brother, Nic, who is the lone senior on the 2009-10 Wildcat roster. Dondre and Nic played together for two seasons at Kingwood High School (2005, 2006), posting a 73-10 (.880) record.
Miller was asked if he was referring to Arizona’s string of 25 straight NCAA tournament appearances, the nation’s longest active streak and two shy of North Carolina’s record run of 27 straight appearances from 1975 to 2001.
“I think the streak is something that can really be damaging to this year’s team,” Miller said. “In reality, it’s something that we can’t control. What happened a year ago or two years ago, 13 years ago, it’s all things that we’re proud of. It’s our tradition. It’s our legacy. It’s why you want to be at a program like Arizona. But what that means in this season, 2009-10, is nothing.”
So Friday, starting at roughly 7:15 after the Huskies' nationally-ranked volleyball team hosts UCLA, the basketball team will come out and do their thing in front of a nationally-televised audience. ESPNU will also be covering midnight madness at Connecticut, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina and North Dakota State. The Huskies will see Georgetown December 2nd, as the two will square off in Los Angeles as part of the Wooden Classic.
According to Romar, the team will come out and do a skit, then they will have a slam dunk contest. Prizes will then be handed out to those in the crowd. A 3-point shooting contest, followed by a team scrimmage, will round out the evening's events.
*The biggest news: Freshman forward Victor Rudd still is waiting to be cleared by the NCAA and likely won't begin practice tomorrow. Rudd, a 6-foot-7 forward from Los Angeles, is known for his explosiveness and athletic ability.
