Re: 2005 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament
Lehigh moves on.
Quote:
WORCESTER, Mass. -- Joe Knight hit 10 3-pointers and scored 45 points -- both new tournament records -- as Lehigh defeated Colgate 77-60 in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament.
Lehigh will face Holy Cross, a 76-42 winner over Army, in the semifinals on Sunday.
Knight broke the previous tournament record of 43 points set by Rod Feaster of Holy Cross in 1994 and Mark Lueking of Army in 1995. Seth Schaeffer's record of seven 3-pointers for Colgate had stood since 1998.
Knight shot 15 of 19 overall and missed just two three-point attempts. He also led Lehigh with seven rebounds and three steals.
Kyle Roemer, who led Colgate (12-16) with 18 points, scored 10 in the first half as Colgate led by as much as 23-11.
But Knight shot Lehigh (14-14) back into the game. Knight connected on three consecutive 3-pointers, as Lehigh went on a 13-4 run, to pull within a point, 29-28, at halftime.
In the second half, Knight's 3-pointer tied it at 37-37 with 14:02 to play, and he then scored 10 straight points. His final field goal in the surge put Lehigh ahead 47-41 with 11:50 left.
Lehigh's 11-6 run made it 60-47 with 9:33 remaining. Knight set the tourney record with a 3-pointer with 8:05 remaining, giving Lehigh a 63-51 lead.

American survives.
Quote:
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Matej Cresnik scored a career-high 30 points and Linas Lekavicius scored with 4.7 seconds left in overtime to help American beat Navy 85-83 in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament on Friday.
Navy's David Hooper scored his fifth 3-pointer with 34 seconds left to tie the score 83-83 before Lekavicius' game-winner. Teammate Corey Johnson had made a 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to tie the score 77-77 and force the extra period.
Raimonda Petrauskas and Andre Ingram each had 13 points for American and Lekavicius added 12 in the game, which saw the lead change hands 13 times. Matt Fannin and Greg Sprink each scored 20 points for Navy and Hooper added 17, all after the first half.
Navy went on a 9-0 early in the second half, with two 3-pointers from Hooper, to take a 52-50 lead. After that, neither team led by more than three points in the final 14 minutes of regulation and overtime.

Abe Badmus had 13 points and Kevin Bettencourt added nine for Bucknell, which scored the first nine points of the game and led 34-16 at the half. The Bison shot almost 40 percent (25-of-63) overall, including 10 of 28 3-pointers, and made 10 of 15 free throws.

Re: 2005 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament
Holy Cross almost saw their season go down the tubes, but a big one over Lehigh gets them to the Patriot League finals this coming Friday at home against Bucknell. It's for all the marbles.
