Re: Lehigh still flying high
Looking forward to hosting Lehigh at the Siegel Center at VCU this year. CJ McCollum and the Mountain Hawks were impressive in dispatching the Blue Devils!
VCU was also a Duke-killer in the NCAA first round behind then-sophomore and current NBA point guard Eric Maynor's late-game heroics in 2007. It should be a great game in Richmond!

Re: Lehigh still flying high
I might let Lehigh just wear the favorite target for a season, except Bucknell is returning a great forecourt, anchored by Mike Muscala, and crucially will have a lot more seasoning in the backcourt. I woud argue that LU has a huge forecourt man to replace, but Macky MacKnight is a great complement to CJ. It is gonna be a fun year.
While the good doctor grouses a bit about his non-conference schedule, Lehigh's OOC array is looking pretty good for a 2nd year. Katz rightfully points out the mid-major scheduling dilemma- Villanova, with all of Jay Wright's ties back to Bucknell, has vanished from the Bison schedule. American, Lafayette and Holy Cross usually do a decent job of scheduling, but it remains to be seen if Army, Navy and Colgate, with their newer coaching staffs, are stepping it up. |

Re: Lehigh still flying high
We are not stepping up yet, but we have no need to. We went 3-26 last year. We are a fragile program right now and playing 3-4 guarantee games and getting beat by 50 would not be good for our program, especially being so young.
I would pencil Lehigh as the favorite. Lehigh lost John Adams, Jordan Hamilton and Justin Maneri, who combined for 14.2 points per game last year. Hamilton started all 35 games while Adams started 10 games. With the emergence of B.J. Bailey late in the season, that easily offsets the loss of Hamilton. Bucknell lost Cohen, who could single-handedly really shut down McCollum, and is a really big loss for them. That is why I put Lehigh as a slight favorite. |
