Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

John was essentially the final preseason cut for the Cavs.

I'd venture to guess he signs on again with their D-League affiliate Canton and hopes for a call-up during the season.

The articles all mention some form of this as a bad omen:
Quote:
When the preseason started, coach Tyronn Lue called him "Hollins" to the press.

Update on how Holland is doing with Canton of the D-League. He is playing even better than last year, though he's been a little overshadowed by teammate Quinn Cook's big scoring numbers. He's still on the NBA radar.

As your article says Holland is a great teammate, a winner, versatile, efficient, and doesn't need the ball to be effective. Sounds like a great end of bench player to have.

The D-League has a prospect watch and Holland has been hovering around the top-20 for the last few weeks. He's at number 19 right now. I know his numbers are not as gaudy as some of the players listed above him, but I still think he would be an asset to NBA team for the qualities listed above.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

The Cavs, which know him best due to training camp, are likely to have their pick of Nba-level buyouts toward the end of the season. But hopefully he's caught the eye of some other teams by now

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

Mo suspended at Creighton. Not sure the relevance of this since he tore his ACL and wasn't gonna suit up again. Must have done something pretty bad to be suspended when he was only on the bench now to begin with. Speculation on the Creighton board is that it has something to do with some sort of sexual act with a minor.

That also could cost Mo some opportunities to play professionally next year.

Deadspin and the Omaha World Herald say it's a sexual assault investigation about an incident in early February.

I'm not going to pre-judge anyone, but ugh -- what a shitty situation for all involved.

Pretty graphic description of what happened. Mo facing 50 years in prison.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

Interesting comments from the GM of the Canton Charge in their season review:

Quote:
Also eating at him is the fact Holland hasn’t been called up to the NBA this season. The unselfish, versatile Holland was seventh in the league in scoring at 22.9 points a game. His scoring went up almost seven full points from last year, when he was called up by the Boston Celtics. His rebounding increased from 3.0 to 4.7 and his assists per game from 2.0 to 3.0. His shooting percentages dipped slightly to 48.2 from the field and 34.6 from 3-point range.

In Gansey’s mind, there is no doubt the 6-foot-5 Holland, who also can defend a variety of players, should be in the NBA.

“I think I failed because he’s not in the NBA,” Gansey said. “I failed this year because of that.”

Clearly, Gansey is being hard on himself. Holland practically told his GM to relax when he said of the season, “It was fun. Hopefully I got to show people what I can do and hopefully somebody sees it. You never know what’s going to happen in the future.”

John had another fantastic season in Canton. It will be interesting to see if he chases the NBA again next year, or decides to go make some guaranteed $$ in Europe.

I thought he would get the call this year. He improved many of his stats by a good margin. Even though he is still in his physical prime the experience versus potential balance is not in his favor, so I think he may go overseas next year. We'll see.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

If there was a loophole for Alston and Fanning to return next year that loophole is now closed - both signed with agents. Alston joins Elevation Basketball that has clients like former NBA player Ben Gordon and Peter Hooley from UAlbany. Fanning signs with the same agent as Tim Kempton, Ronnie Zeidel.

I've heard rumors that Fanning might be playing in Korea, guess we will see on that.
