Class of 2014 update:

DJ - Grad Assistant (?) at Penn State, I presume
Travis - 76ers
Dom - Pro ball in Israel

Good for them.

That is awesome. I'd love to know what Travis is doing for the Sixers (if ANY team's roster was decimated enough to take one of our guys, it's Philly but alas...)

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

More on Dom's new team. Third tier Israeli league, but they are an above average team.

Quote:
Maccabi Raanana (Artzit) signed 24-year old American forward Dom Morris (201-109kg-90). He just graduated from Boston University (NCAA). In 33 games he had 11.1ppg and 6.1rpg last season. He helped them to win the regular season and make it to the Patriot League Tournament final.
As mentioned above Morris is just out of the college and it will be his first season as a pro.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his college team won AEC Tournament in 2011. Morris was also voted All-AEC 3rd Team in 2013.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

Anybody know why John Holland isn't playing for Puerto Rico in the FIBA World Cup? I watched the exhibition against the U.S. on ESPN before the tourney started, and he was sitting behind the bench in a polo shirt

I understand he has an injury of some sort that kept him out of competition. I can't remember what exactly is wrong but I also remember it wasn't career ending.

John Holland is "Questionable" for the FIBA World Cup. He suffered a quadricep rupture tendon on his left leg during practice. He was supposed to travel to CentroBasket.

A real shame John couldn't play. I think he's a borderline NBA player and he would have had a chance to show it against top competition. He may have been in the starting five if healthy.

Yeah, that really sucks. I taped that USA/PR game because I was hoping John could show his stuff against the best of the best. And then to miss FIBA too. He must be so bummed.

Holland on the Spurs' training camp roster. It's too bad they don't have any roster spots because he would be a good fit. He is like a poor man's Kawhi Leonard. It's nice he is still getting looks by NBA clubs.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

SB Nation post about Holland's chances of making the team (not good) and after training camp options (D-League).
http://www.poundingtherock.com/2014/...g-camp-invites

Quote:
Holland was a late addition to the training camp roster and doesn't seem to possess any elite skill that would make up for his average size and athleticism for a wing. But at 25, he's a young veteran with years of experience playing at a high level in Europe and he brings a varied skill set to the table. He's a solid rebounder from the perimeter, a decent defender and competent scorer. In a small, defined role he could see his efficiency as a shooter soar and could become a viable deep bench utility guy at the wing.
Quote:
Can one of them get a guaranteed deal?

It doesn't seem likely. Camp guys have to really impress to earn a spot under normal circumstances. In this case, they would have to play well enough to motivate the front office into waiving someone to make room or work out a trade, which in all likelihood would have to include cash considerations covering the traded player's contract. Doing that for a 15th man just makes little sense...

...Holland plays a position the Spurs have well-stocked with four guys whose play merits ample playing time. And while Ginobili is injury-prone and needs his minutes monitored, the other guys are young enough to take a heavier load. Unless the injuries at the wing improbably pile up like last season, there's just no need for another shooting guard.
Quote:
For the past few years, the last three players to be cut from a team's training camp could be allocated to their D-League affiliate. This season that number has climbed to four. So these players could use the guaranteed money ($20K for JH) they get from the Spurs to participate on camp, then sign a D-League contract and stay close to San Antonio and learn the system. If a trade goes down during the season clearing a roster spot, they might have a shot of re-joining the team.

Spurs had an intrasquad scrimmage yesterday. JH had four points, but his team lost. Spurs next two games will be in Germany (10/8) and Turkey (10/11). I believe the games will be on NBA TV.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

More photos of Holland with the champs. Plus, the Spurs play tomorrow against a German team, which might mean a blowout and extra run for the non-roster players. The game will be on NBA TV at 2pm EST and replayed at 10:30pm.
