Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

Another BU alum will be playing in the TBT, Jake O'Brien.

JOB hooked up with one of the better teams remaining. They have size, shooters, scorers, a national champion, and three former NBA players.

I watched the video. The team hung in but never really got close. Turnovers and the talent gap did them in, but the team kept fighting till the end. Dom started out well, but was quiet after that. D.J. and Malik could not do much. Pat Hazel surprised me and was good throughout. He did some things I have never seen him do at BU like taking his man off the dribble and slashing to the basket. He also has a new and improved free throw stroke, much more compact.

JOB's team was also eliminated, although Jake was not there for either game.

And after a quick scan, there are still Patriot League players in the tournament. HC's Malcolm Miller and David Dudzinski are with Armored Athlete and Loyola's Dylon Cormier is with Sideline Cancer.

Despite suffering a foot injury, John Holland will play for the Puerto Rican national team in the upcoming FIBA Americas tournament in Mexico.

http://www.fibaamericas.com/mex2015/...o%20Rico&c=PUR

Other notable participants include:

JJ Barea (PUR)
Rick Pitino (PUR)
Luis Scola (ARG)
Andrew Wiggins (CAN)
Kelly Olynyk (CAN)
Gerardo Suero (DOM)

Canada appears to be the favorite, however the top two teams qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Puerto Rico has a decent chance to finish in the top-two, although their roster lacks size and some players are already hurt.

Games start tomorrow and below is the PR's group stage schedule.

8/31, ARG
9/1, CUB
9/2, VEN
9/4, CAN

Nice interview. Thanks for sharing.

The PR Tip-Off ended up being a very productive trip for Holland. Games against Kansas State and Georgia Tech and a win against Indiana, plus the realization he could be eligible for the national team.

As for this tournament, PR still has a chance to advance although they basically need to win their next game and Venezuela needs to lose.

Dom Morris will be playing in Finland next year. He won't be the only Terrier alum in the Korisliiga, Darryl Partin signed on another team a few months ago. Partin played in Denmark last year and led the league in scoring.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

Update on a few players:

James Kennedy at Merrimack. He is averaging 7.6 ppg and leading the team with 7.9 rpg. Happy for him that he got an opportunity to play ball there and seems to be making the most of it. Merrimack is 5-6 overall but only 1-5 in the Northeast 10.

http://merrimackathletics.com/sports...015-16/leaders

Mo Watson for Creighton is their second leading scorer with 11.7 ppg and leading the team with 6.2 apg. Creighton is 58th on KenPom and are probably outside of the tournament bubble at this point with a bad loss at Loyola (Ill.) and two okay wins vs Nebraska and vs UMass. I hope they don't make the tournament.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

I have no hard feelings towards Mo. I really think he tried to make BU big, but ultimately we couldn't fulfill his expectations for a full college basketball experience. I remember the look on his face, desperately trying to get the crowd involved but with little success in the NIT game against Illinois.

Changing gears a bit, but I did a comparison of Watson's first five games at BU versus his successor's, Kyle Foreman. Take a look.

Watson
13.8 ppg, 5.6 apg, 3.8 rpg, 51 fg%, 63 ft%, 2 spg, 2.8 tpg

Foreman
13.2 ppg, 5.2 apg, 3.4 rpg, 56 fg%, 73 ft%, 1 spg, 3.6 tpg

I picked five games because Foreman got hurt in the fifth game and hasn't been quite the same player since. Small sample size, but very similar stat lines. Qualitatively these are my early impressions of both players against each other.

- Mo is the better finisher at the rim.
- Kyle is the better threat from outside.
- Mo is a more vocal and willing leader.
- Mo might get more steals, but Kyle might be a more fundamentally sound defender.
- Mo dominates the ball, sometimes at the expense of his teammates.
- Speed is a push.

Again, too early to tell, but it kind of shows that you don't always need a top-100 player to get excellent results.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

I don't really care about him, but I don't exactly wish him well either. He was basically shopping himself in November/December when they played UCONN. He and his father admitted that after the transfer. Then I don't think he received the level of interest he expected after announcing his transfer...I think he envisioned himself at a UCONN, Indiana, Michigan level school. I highly doubt Creighton makes the dance this year so he's got one year.

And the fact is he's not a Terrier - his heart was not at BU - so I'll take Kyle Foreman over him any day of the week!

John Holland to the D-League. He will play for the Canton Charge, who are affiliated with the Cleveland Cavaliers. In addition to the Cavs, Holland was on summer league rosters for the Heat, Thunder, and Timberwolves; worked out with the Knicks and probably the Celtics after graduation; Sixers coach Brett Brown is a BU alumnus; and a training camp stint with the Spurs. Hopefully John and his agent can parlay one of these connections into a 10-day contract, at least.

That is awesome. I know he can make more money elsewhere, but at his age this may be his last chance to get a shot in the League. I hope somebody, even the Sixers, gives him 10 days to show his stuff. It would be amazing to get called up to the Cavs or Spurs though.

I would add that, both statistically and by the eye test, Foreman's passes have been more likely to wind up in the other team's hands.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

John has played 6 games for the Canton Charge. He's averaging 10.8 ppg in 23 mins off the bench. He's shooting almost 3.5 3's per game and making 45% of them. Not sure it's enough to attract the attention of an NBA team, but he's doing well. He scored 19 in a win a few days ago.

Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

Mo Watson's stats in Big East play:

St John's - 17 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, 5 TO
Villanova - 15 points, 4 assists, 0 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 TO
Georgetown - 27 points, 4 assists, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 3 TO
Seton Hall - 13 ponts, 14 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 TO

Averaging 13.8 ppg, 6.6 apg, 2.8 rbg overall.

Foreman might be able to elevate his play to be of similar quality at some point in his career, but we would be having quite a different season this year if Mo was on the team. Nonetheless, hopefully Creighton doesn't make the tournament.
