Re: Boston University Alumni Updates

Nice article about Holland's D-League experience from earlier this week. The author summarizes JH's basketball journey and accomplishments well, but this was the best part:
Quote:
One NBA general manger told The Repository he believes Holland is the most NBA-ready player on the Charge’s current roster because of his defensive prowess.

While technically not an "alum" (so not sure if this is the right forum for this post), I found Pat Chambers decision, to not accept an invitation to either the CBI or Vegas 16, somewhat interesting - and am curious as to the rationale behind his decision.

So far, PC has been recruiting at a high level but the results have been dreadful. He's a below average in game coach and I think that's well established now.

I agree he's a better recruiter than with Xs & Os, but I was wondering why he would turn down CBI, CIT, Vegas, etc. Is it punishment to his team for a lackluster season? Or, maybe, does he believe the consolation tournaments, primarily comprised of mid-major and low-major programs, are beneath him or his program?

This seems to be standard now, I think the A10 was the best conference this year to have teams play in the CBI/Vegas/CIT tournaments. Only Duquesne and Fordham participated in those tournaments, programs that are very mid-major.

Based on program performance these tournaments are not beneath PSU, but they are beneath the B1G. The high-major schools have different expectations so associating themselves with low/mid-majors would be damaging to the brand.

As for Chambers, this is a big year for him. He has a highly rated recruiting class coming in and the PSU administration is probably expecting to finally see results.

He's a good player and can certainly make some money in Europe but he's not an NBA player...at least not yet. And it looks kind of foolish to declare.

With the new rules there is very little downside to declaring. Calipari said every single one of his players was declaring for the draft!

Mo can just pull out when he doesn't get invited to the NBA combine.
