Re: 2017 Recruiting

The three incoming freshmen have signed their NLIs, which pretty much assures us they are coming next year. Suk gets a little creative with the Mannequin Challenge signing.

This probably doesn't happen very often for BU or Patriot League recruits.

It definitely is an honor, but it's not rare for a Patriot League recruit or even a BU recruit to be a nominee. Mahoney and Mosely both were nominees.

Oh wow, the list is quite large really, just for one state even.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

Sunday was not a good day for BU basketball but it was a good day for two of our recruits - Walter Whyte's and Javante McCoy's teams won their prep school championships. Whyte scored 25 points to lead St. Luke's to the Class C championship and McCoy scored 20 in Phillips Exeter's Class A victory.

First the tweets:

And the full game videos:
Walter Whyte (#23 maroon) - St. Luke's
https://portal.stretchinternet.com/n...reamType=video

Javante McCoy (#13 white) - Phillips Exeter
https://portal.stretchinternet.com/n...reamType=video

Quick thoughts, the video quality of the Exeter game is not great but Javante is wearing bright red shoes and he scored the first five points. In addition to a couple of long three pointers he also scored on mid-range jumpers, transition layups, and free throws. As for the St. Luke's game, the level of competition was not great, although the best player on the opposing team is walking on at Wake Forest. BU 2019 prospect, Jonas Harper, played with poise. As for Whyte, he did most of his damage on slashes to the basket and shots in the paint. One of the announcers said this about Whyte's physique - "he's (freakin) big."

Re: 2017 Recruiting

It looks like Derek Kellogg is out at UMass. I wouldn't mind us going after some of the players that we recruited such as Unique McLean who redshirted his freshman year. We have a least one spot yet, hopefully we are trying to fill it with a transfer.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

All three of our recruits fall into the NEPSAC and the all New England teams were recently announced.

Class AA Honorable Mention: Suhkhail Mathon
Class A First Team: Javante McCoy
Class C Player of the Year: Walter Whyte

I would assume it goes down in difficulty as the letter decreases? Any thoughts on this MM?

To the extent of my understanding of NEPSAC, yes that is correct. Lower in the alphabet, lower the level.

There are six classes: AAA, AA, A, B, C, D. AAA is the highest, but AA is right up there with them. After that it is a big drop-off, so in terms of level of play there are two divisions: AAA/AA and A-D. Basically what separates the AAA/AA schools from the A-D schools is the school's commitment to supporting a high level program. As for the A-D schools, what separates them from each other is the size of enrollment.

AAA/AA schools also play more games, play longer games (20 or 18 minute halves versus 16 minute halves), and they may have fewer limitations for enrolling post-grad players.

Considering BU has tapped into the NEPSAC talent pool plenty of times (the three incoming freshmen, Dylan Haines, Kamali Chambers, Brandon Johnson, John Papale, James Kennedy, Zach Chionuma) I was also long overdue to understand these collection of schools.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

At the very least good to see we are hitting the transfer market. I would much rather us go this route than try to reach for a player that might not be D1 quality at this point. I wonder if we will express interest in Kevin Marfo (George Washington), we had previous offered him.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

Cheddi Mosely and Malik Thomas also played in this game their senior years, but these rosters look to be a little more stacked. These were the rosters when Cheddi played.
