2017 Recruiting

Gonna be a lot of bigs in the 2017 class we will need to recruit for with Blaise, Justin, and Dylan graduating after this upcoming season. I think we need to recruit probably two. Looks like we have offers for four of them after offering one more this weekend.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

A little surprised BU is going after a PG but with four scholarships opening up for next year I could see 2 bigs, one SG/SF and one PG making sense.

SCS, congrats are in order since you'll be becoming a Wolverine soon, but I hope these continued recruiting updates mean you'll continue to follow Terrier hoops so closely!

Thanks, I'm excited to add Wolverine football and basketball to my rooting interests! I will still be following BU basketball as my main basketball love, and to a lesser extent hockey, though I already have been following from afar since graduating in December. I still have friends there for another year or two so hopefully I can still give some insights on what might be going on around campus.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

My wish list includes at least a couple of bigs and an athletic slashing player to make up for the loss after Fanning graduates. The four spot is in good shape with Havener and Mahoney, but I'd like to see Coach Jones be ambitious in recruiting centers. A starting spot and playing time will be available after next year which should be attractive to higher level recruits.

As for some of our recent offers, R.J. Cole goes to St. Anthony's in NJ, the same high school as Cheddi Mosely. Justyn Mutts also is from NJ and was teammates with incoming AU guard Sa'eed Nelson. I watched Mutts play against St. Anthony's, coincidentally, and he impressed me.

I'm wondering if Scanlon projects more as a 4 at the college level. Tbh, with the talent disparity between guards and bigs at the mid-major level, I would like BU to primarily play a 3 guard line-up. The Quinnipiac model doesn't seem to work that well despite the lofty rebound numbers they have put up. I think its going to be hard to get another athletic talent of Hankerson/Fanning quality but we mine as well try. I wouldn't mind a ready to go big now and a 7 foot project to work with but I wonder if Joe Jones is making a real attempt to emulate the Warriors play-style with shorter more versatile players in the front court and taller players in the backcourt, with 3 players between 6'6-6'7 coming in for 2016, it could be possible.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

I've bought into the Warriors (or Villanova) model, so I understand a plodding, back-to-the-basket big man is not always needed. Both teams, however, have a defensive backstop (Bogut and Ochefu) which we won't have after next year and I have doubts Havener/Mahoney could really prosper if tasked with playing a lot of center. It's just not their best position. The qualities I would prioritize for a center recruit would be good length (6'10" and up), mobility, defensive-minded, and good rebounding. Hopefully we land a player like this. Also, keep in mind that the second best teams in the NBA and NCAA, the Spurs and UNC, play big so that strategy is still effective.

As for Scanlon, I still think he projects as a SF however I could see him playing a stretch four at times.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

BU offered 6-9 PF/C Greg Eboigbodin with previous offers from DePaul, Bona, Northern Kentucky, UIC, Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State and St. Peter's. Looks like the sort of immediate impact big that BU might be able to entice with the allure of big minutes next year.

That's always my big hope that we land a higher level recruit because of the availability of playing time. It's a mid major's equalizer in battles with high major schools.

I'm not sure if we are among the favorites, but he did put in extra effort to tweet out he was offered by us. And maybe Greg will feel a closer connection to BU due to history - our program's best player ever, Tunji Awojobi, is also from Nigeria.

Re: 2017 Recruiting

Just when I commented on the lack of recruiting news the next two days we get an R.J. Cole update and now this:

http://www.newenglandrecruitingrepor...form=hootsuite

Sukhmail also had offers from several other Patriot League schools and an A10 school, La Salle.

Considering we lose Blaise and Haines after this year I really like that we have someone to replace their height.

Welcome to BU, Suk!
