Aaron McKie to the Knicks via Charlotte?
Quote:
Isiah Thomas confirmed the Knicks are in discussions with the Bobcats about a trade. The Post reported yesterday Isiah had spoken to Charlotte prez Ed Tapscott about trading Othella Harrington, who's in the final year of his contract and whom the Knicks protected, for a player the Bobcats can select in Tuesday's expansion draft.
The Bobcats could also have interest in Dikembe Mutombo, whom the Knicks also protected and is in the last year of his pact, and their second-round pick.
Heading the list of players piquing Isiah's interest is Aaron McKie, who has a long-term deal the Bobcats aren't crazy about.

If there's one person who's not concerned with swallowing a disgusting contract, it's Zeke Thomas. This is news, that makes many Sixer fans giddy with excitement, because not only does this mean we'd be rid of McKie's contract but we'd also receive a trade exception for the amount of his contract this season.
This move in itself, would give us flexibility to make other trades including moving some of our other unwanted contracts. I might be crazy to think this, but after seeing the Pistons winning the Finals, I truly don't think the Sixers are as far away as it seemed at the end of the season.
To win a championship, you need a plan, and you have to get the personnel for it, and then you have to stick to the plan. We had the personnel to play the Larry Brown style and then they tossed it all away a year later. I'm not saying we'll jump to the top of the East now, or something crazy like that, but I think in a few years we could be right back where we used to be. Of course, it would all get a jumpstart if the Knicks really do want Aaron McKie.

Among other unprotected players stirring Isiah are shooting guard Aaron McKie and Malik Rose, both with long-term deals, making about $5.5M next season. Thomas nearly traded for Rose at the trading deadline in exchange for Kurt Thomas.
Bickerstaff acknowleged the Knicks have attractive assets. Sources say the Bobcats have interest in Othella Harrington and Dikembe Mutombo, both in the final years of their contracts, and the Knicks' second-round pick (43rd overall). Bickerstaff said he's looking for a couple of vets to serve as "mentors."
Bickerstaff said he expects to make three or four more trades this week, adding, "We have a some things on the bubble and we'll work diligently to try to bring a couple more to fruition.

Zeke is supposedly still interested in McKie, which is good, very good. Not much more to say than that, just updating the situation.

This is positive news if you are a TRUE Sixers fan. Mckie has been a dog the past 2 1/2 seasons. Time for him to be gone

Uh.. oh..
Just read Insider, and they're saying that the Knicks might be more after Malik Rose than Aaron McKie. The Spurs want to get under the cap, and are willing to offer $3 million to the Bobcats to select Rose, who in turn go and trade him to New York for Mutombo and the Knicks' second rounder.
It doesn't matter either way for the Bobcats as they'd be getting the same things from the Knicks whether it's McKie or Rose, but I'm really really wishing that McKie's the guy they want. Please help us out, once!

Dreams dashed, Aaron McKie is still a Sixer. It was a long shot to hope that someone could bail us out of his bad contract, and I though Isiah was going to be the one to do it. Oh well. Things should still be very interesting.
