Trade winds: Iverson for Carter? Dalembert/#9 for Chandler/#3?
Quote:
Two rumors have blown into town concerning the Sixers and what they might do before Thursday's NBA draft and beyond. One, which was started locally and picked up on MSNBC.com, talked of a superstar swap between the Sixers and the Toronto Raptors, with Allen Iverson heading north in exchange for Vince Carter.
The second, appearing yesterday in the Chicago Tribune, had the Sixers packaging a deal that included center Samuel Dalembert and their first-round pick (No. 9 overall) for the Chicago Bulls' No. 3 overall selection and center Tyson Chandler.
Sixers president and general manager Billy King declined to speak about either report.
"I won't comment on trade rumors," King said yesterday.
|
Quote:
But King constantly has denied that he will trade Iverson, and new head coach Jim O'Brien declared in April, at the time of his hiring, "I want to coach Allen Iverson."
The Raptors have missed the playoffs the last two seasons and fingers are being pointed at Carter. Carter reportedly also is miffed that the team did not hire ex-Sixer Julius Erving as general manager, and has not returned telephone calls from new GM Rob Babcock.
But Babcock has said: "I want Vince Carter on this team. I think Vince Carter is a guy we can build around," which doesn't sound like a desire to trade him.
As for the rumor involving Dalembert, a pleasant surprise last season when he averaged 8.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, his agent, Marc Cornstein, said yesterday, "I don't think there's any truth to it.
"We'll see what happens down the road," he said. "But I don't know where that came from. I would be very surprised if Samuel is part of a trade."
The Tribune report pointed out that King is a former Duke player, and the likely No. 3 pick would be a Duke product - 6-7 forward Luol Deng.

I'm just curious what you guys think of the trades, good, bad, ugly? Real, fake, what? I have my mind deadset on the fact that if there's smoke there's fire, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the names we see are connected to the flames.
For those who don't know, the Iverson for Carter rumors kicked off on 610 WIP, one of the worst sports talk radio stations in America. And this isn't the first time they kicked around the same rumor. In such a trade, the Sixers would be gaining size, but everything we love in AI we would gain everything we would hate in VC. Carter has the talent to be a game changing talent, and one of the top five players in the game, but his mentality isn't that of a champion. He stops being aggressive and falls into shooting jumpers, and he refuses to play through any pain, which is something Iverson almost relishes.
The Chandler/#3 for Dalembert/#9 grew from the assumption that the guy King targeted was Luol Deng. This was published in an article by Sam Smith out of Chicago, a man who's notorious for trade rumors, he has more than anyone can keep up with. We'd still be getting a young player, but we'd have a whole at the 5 since I doubt Chandler could play the position. I was arguing the situation over on the Bulls board, and came out of the argument with both guys having upside, but Dalembert is the best fit for us.
When seeing these trade rumors, what goes through your minds? What do you think? I'm obviously curious, because seeing these I really wish neither are anywhere near being true.

Dalembert and #9 for Chandler and #3????
So, either Dalembert's stock has REALLY REALLY risen, or Chandler's stock has REALLY REALLY fallen.

I think it's somewhere towards the middle Dalembert had a very productive stretch towards the end of the season, when he was given consistent minutes, and Chandler was hurt. No bothers though, it's most likely not a real rumor.
And here's from the Toronto Sun, debunking the Iverson/Carter rumor:
Quote:
The first item is downplaying a wild rumour started by a Philadelphia sports talk radio station that the Raptors and Sixers had discussed sending Carter to the 76ers for Allen Iverson.
The rumour was debunked as a "fraud" by one Philadelphia source, while Babcock said he hadn't had any specific trade talks with any team. The suggested deal was removed from one of the many Web sites reporting it by early last night.

I would love the Chandler/#3 for Dalembert/#9. Chandler is a player I really like. If he can stay healthy he can be a very good center IMO. He can rebound and block shots like Dalembert, and while I don't think he has Dalembert's athletic ability I'm pretty sure he has a better understanding of the game. He is still very young too and should improve. Swapping picks is a plus too.

garbage trade.
carter is an injury waiting to happen, and doesnt play as hard as Allen.
Chandler had his hype, he wont be wat he was supposed to be. Sammy is only getting better

No way should we let Sammy go for that injury plagued stick. Tyson was out a large portion of last season and when he came back he was almost useless, not even managing to start over a scrub like Antonio Davis.
If we trade Sam Dalembert it better be for a real player like Yao haha!

It wasn't a legit rumor at all, sources from WIP said that it was banter between radio hosts. So the worthless station, creates a worthless statement. Billy said he didn't even talk to the Raptors GM since he's had the job.

That's not fair to say, remember last year, it seemed like Sammy wasn't going to be anything because of the knee problems. I think Chandler deserves a chance to make better of last season, I think he's going to be a player, but not a superstar. The KG comparisons were really unfounded.
