Erick Dampier?
Just bear with me for a second..
I don't get it, we're attached to Mark Blount in rumors along with Indiana, Miami, and Boston, yet there's no mention of Erick Dampier? What we know, is that we're going after a big man, and the only rumors that are floating around about Dampier is that he's possibly going to be used as a sign and trade piece through Dallas to the Lakers for Shaq.
When I saw that report, it lead me to believe, why can't we step in and offer something? The Warriors have been known as a cheap franchise for years, so maybe they'd be interested in a certain expiring contract of Glenn Robinson? It's obvious with Dampier he's not going any place for less than the $8 million he left on the table in Golden State, so why not offer him $10 mill over four years?
It's a pretty lucrative deal, not incredibly long term. But pretty good for a player who's 30 years old, it's a pay raise, and it gives us insurance in case he dogs it by only being four years. This is complete speculation, by yours truly, but I think it's at least worth a shot. Dampier has been solid in years prior to last year, last year he really stepped it up. On the other hand, Blount dogged it until the last half of last season when he finally woke up.
Billy King said we might try to fill the void in the front court either through free agency, or trades. So this is just another scenario, to think about.
