Sixers at Blount's doorstep..

Quote:
The Philadelphia 76ers have contacted Mark Blount about joining their team next season. In fact, new head coach Jim O’Brien met Blount at his home at 12:05 am yesterday morning to try and convince the centre to join him in Philly next season. O’Brien and Blount have a great relationship that was formed while both were employed by the Celtics. If Blount were to sign with Philly it would probably be at the expense of Samuel Dalembert. In the second half of last season Dalembert made huge strides and looked to be the 76ers centre of the future. If Blount were to come to town I would be concerned that he would be given a favourable spot in the rotation over Dalembert due to O’Brien being more comfortable with his former player. While Blount is one of the top free agent centre’s this summer, the 76s still have Marc Jackson, Derrick Coleman and Dalembert to man the middle and would be better served looking at help at the small forward and point guard position

I linked this article above all others, because of the point at the end. If we sign Mark Blount, it won't be to slide Dalembert over but instead to place him on the bench. I don't know about you guys, but that's something I definitely don't want, especially after how well he played last season.

I mean compare it, a young player (23) who made huge strides when he finally got time Vs an older player (28) who made strides at the end of last season looking for a new contract. I just don't see the pluses in getting Blount, and I think bringing him in might be the first step in pushing Dalembert out the door.

Look at it this way, Dalembert is a restricted free agent next offseason. We could extend him this offseason, but why would he if he doesn't know if Blount will sign or not? And next year if he plays well he should get a good offer on the restricted market from someone because of his size and athleticism.

My teams will never win a championship anyway, so why don't you discuss everything else at my forum? Good idea, right? Yeah, I thought so. It's called.. Booing Santa Claus. See you there.
