Rumor: Dampier for Robinson/Korver?
Overheard on San Francisco sports radio ...
Quote:

We were thinking that because Philly now has some extra cash and way more contracts than their roster can hold, another, bigger move must be on the way right? Then we heard that San Francisco sports radio was reporting that the Sixers and Warriors were going to pull off a sign-and-trade that would send Erick Dampier to Philly for Glenn Robinson and Kyle Korver.
|
That's all there is to it, and I haven't heard it anywhere else. Still, figured I'd mention it so it could be discussed.

There's major concerns here, if we did land Dampier how would he fit into O'Brien's offense? What would that do to Dalembert's development?
And would Dampier just shut it down?
To be honest, unless this would guarantee us as Championship contender, I wouldn't touch it, because it would leave us in much the same way salary cap wise as we were to begin with.
I don't know, maybe it'd grow on me if it were to take place. I really have no clue how to think about this.

as much as it sounds tempting, i just havent seen enough good years out of Dampier to make him appealing to have here.

Maybe a good trade fo the Warriors, but I wouldn't like it for the Sixers. We already have enough bigmen, and I think Dalembert is ready to start and break out. We already got Skinner, and Marc Jackson can play C too, so we don't need another center, especially if we have to give up the ONLY true shooter we have.

Good Cs are hard to find nowadays, so if you guys do pick up Dampier I'm sure you can unload Jackson or Skinner with ease. Dampier can be the 2nd best pure center in the east (by pure I mean excluding Big Ben and Jermaine)

I wouldn't mind if it was only a 1 or 2 year deal for Dampier....But a long-term deal for the expiring contract in Glenn and a great shooter in Korver? No way....

Good C's are hard to find, but I have every reason to believe that Dalembert will be just as good a center as Dampier in a year or two. He would be a lot cheaper too. Anyway, Korver is the only real shooter on the Sixers, and losing him will be a big blow.

My god, I can't believe you guys think this is a bad trade. I think this is a great trade. Dampier is top 5 center, if not top 3.
Dalembert it great, but Dampier is better. Wost that can happen is you move one of them to power forward, or you trade them. There are many teams that would love to get Dalembert.

There's a lot of players who looked great for a season, got their contract and stopped. Considering Dampier's age it's really concerning to see that he's had one big season, and it happened to be the year before he opted out of his contract.
We have to be extremely safe about things like this, especially considering the people who did things like this before. If he consistently put up his best work, I'd be all for it, but we don't know what he'll bring.
