Trade talks with Pacers... Coleman/Buckner for Croshere?
Quote:
King has also had discussions with the Pacers "since June," he said yesterday.
While King wouldn't confirm the particulars, an NBA source said the two teams have talked about swapping Derrick Coleman and Greg Buckner for Austin Croshere.
Coleman, who will be bought out of the remaining $7 million of his contract if King cannot pawn him off on somebody, is owed $4.5 million next year with a $2.5 million buyout in 2005-06. Buckner ($2.88 million) has four years and $13 million remaining.
Croshere, a combination forward who has fallen out of the Pacers' rotation since signing a huge extension, is slated to make $26.73 million over the next three years - $8.26 million this season, followed by $8.91 million and $9.56 million.

I know it sounds gross, and it's a big contract, but really it's not that bad. Croshere is a SF who can play some PF (won't be a beast down low) and he can definitely shoot the ball, which is something we're going to need more of. The thing is, if this goes through I honestly doubt we'll still land Walker as well.
Also this gives us a shorter contract than Buckner, while getting rid of two guys we were talking about buying out. I think he could work out in O'Brien's system, but the problem comes down to how many minutes are we handing out here?

I don't like it.
I would have taken Croshere a few years ago, but not now. Especially after looking at his earnings for the next years. Yikes, I wouldnt think this is a good move either.

Croshere is a good player when given enough burn. Good trade for you guys if you ask me. I dont know if I would do it as a Pacers fan though. We just lost Harrington and Croshere would be big off the bench for us.

I think if this deal is seriously being considered, Indiana is banking on Jonathon Bender finally playing a huge role, which I think is great for all involved parties. Also it gives Fred Jones more time, while Stephen Jackson can move over to the SF.
Thing is, I'm having a hard time believing you guys would take Coleman and Buckner. I guess if Indiana wants to get rid of Croshere bad enough, the fact there's a team option on the 2005-06 season for Coleman ($2.4 million) makes it a good move.
If this happens, there's no way I don't consider this a deal the Sixers win.

I agree. He can't really be worse than Coleman I think. He could make a good backup, or starter if you dont wanna start Iggy. Plus you get outta Buckners contract a year earlier.
Also in 2 years, you guys could definatly get some value when Austin contract expires. Look at what DD got us. Nick the Quick, I know he wasn't happy in GS but still, expiring contracts are the shizz nowadays.

If this happens, I wouldn't WANT Walker.
Word is Dallas won't make Walker for Big Puppy happen unless Korver is included. Korver's not gonna be a superstar. But that's kind of like giving the bum who just washed your windshield a dime, then him saying it costs a dollar.
Walker's a headache and if he comes here, he's going to create a huge distraction over him getting a contract extension..... a max one no less. He's a clubhouse cancer and it might blow up in our face.
That said, I'd gladly trade Pup for Walker, if it only required salmons or buckner.

This trade has been effectively shotdown by Pacers' brass, doesn't mean that a trade couldn't be worked in the future, just means it's a little less likely. I knew it was pretty much a stretch for us to believe that Coleman and Buckner could get us anything in return.
Quote:
Walsh, meanwhile, shot down published reports out of the Philadelphia area that claimed the Pacers were discussing trading Austin Croshere to the 76ers for Derrick Coleman and Greg Buckner.
"I don't have any trades with Philadelphia," Walsh said.
Croshere, who will be paid nearly $8.3 million next season, is likely to move up a rung on the team's depth chart at forward with Harrington's departure.
"Our coaches and Larry like Austin," Walsh said. "We don't have him out there. It would have to be a good trade."
