Dalembert Fan Q&A
Quote:
Chris, Livonia, Mich.
How did you take interest in basketball? And how did the change from Haiti to the United States affect you?
Dalembert: I got interested the first time I saw old Doctor J dunk highlights in 1992, and I started loving it and starting playing in 1995. The only difference is the change from soccer to basketball, and the weather ... hot to cold.
Andy, Port-au-Prince, Haiti
How do you feel to be the only Haitian playing in the NBA right now?
Dalembert: It's an honor. I know I have the flag to represent and I have to be a great player on and off the court. Olden Polynice was the first player from Haiti in the NBA. We played on the Sixers together for three months when I was a rookie.
Kevin, Michigan City, Ind.
Mr. Dalembert, what do you think about the loss of Eric Snow, and the addition of Kevin Ollie and Kedrick Brown?
Dalembert: Eric Snow is a great player and he knows basketball like the palm of his hand. He taught me when I was playing. He didn't have the great ability, but he knows the game as a point guard.
Mastodon, London, Ontario, Canada
Will Samuel Dalembert play for the Canadian National team anytime in the future? ... I'll start a petition to get you on the team!
Dalembert: I would love to. I tried, but we couldn't get the paperwork together in time. I hope to in the future. My mom is Canadian and my sister is Canadian.
Mark, Buffalo, N.Y.
What do you hope to contribue at the basketball camp and what would you like the players and kids to take away from it?
Dalembert I look forward to having fun and not make it look too serious, and teach them some of the basic stuff. I'm really impressed with the facilities here. It's fun gathering all the kids. It shows you that even if they don't speak the same language, basketball is universal.
Justin, Canal Winchester, Ohio
Mr. Dalembert, I am a 15-year-old from Ohio and I was just wondering what you did to make it to the NBA and how you got as far as you did. ... Can you give me some pointers on how to improve my game?
Dalembert: Keep playing every day and have a good work ethic. Perseverance wins out. One day your opportunity will come.
Nafeese a.k.a. franchise, Philadelphia
"Samuel Dalembeast!" That's what I call you. ... I want you to keep beasting boards, blocking shots and get them nasty dunks, oops and putbacks. Make me proud this season, big man.
Dalembert: Thank you and I will keep beasting.
Eduardo, Redwood City, Calif.
My favorite team is the 76ers and I watch them when I get a chance but I think you're are going to be a great center because you play with everything you have and give 100 percent effort. I'm also a big Allen Iverson fan and I was just wondering if he has influenced you in anyway in how to play basketball? I look forward to seeing the Iverson-Dalembert duo for years to come.
Dalembert: We started to get a connection as we're playing and know what each other does and what I need to do to put myself in a position to get the ball. Its great that my teammates have confidence in me as the season goes on. ... I would give credit more to (former assistant) coach English and (former) coach Ford for giving me a chance to play and to recognize my talent and skills.
Keith, Philadelphia
Have you been working on your game this offseason and if so what aspect of your game?
Dalembert: Everything. Especially the offensive end. My post moves and being able to contribue and score easily, so when they need me that it's a sure two points. I'm also tring to get my legs stronger.

Some very comforting things in this interview, I can't wait to see how far along Sam's game has come since last season. If he continues his improvement, I think we'll all know we have something special on our hands here.
