Sixers to buy-out Greg Buckner?
Quote:
Steve Kaufmann, the agent for Philadelphia 76ers swingman Greg Buckner, said it's possible Buckner could end up in a Nuggets uniform. Kaufmann said the 76ers are considering buying out of the final four years and $12.9 million left on Buckner's contract or trading him. The Nuggets likely would be more interested in signing Buckner as a free agent.
"(Denver has) really liked him for a while," Kaufmann said. "I won't deny it. It's been something that has been talked about frequently."
Last season was Buckner's least productive, averaging career lows of 3.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 13.3 minutes. The 6-4, 210-pounder averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds with Dallas and Philadelphia from 1999-2003. He has a reputation of being a strong defensive player. He played for Dallas while Vandeweghe was an assistant coach and director of player development from 1999-2001.

I'd just be happy to get him off the team, if it's a reasonable buyout, it'll make the move to acquire Corliss Williamson and his contract that much better. If this happens, I'd probably wager that no other moves will be made, and Kedrick Brown makes the team by default.
I wonder though, if the Nuggets are interested in Buckner, and we have him, why not try to work out some type of trade? Either way, I'd be happy to have him gone.

PhillyP why wouldn't they just cut Brown too? More time for Green and Iggy. Thats what I think this is about, O'Brien wants more PT for Green, this clears it up, if Buckner even gets time......

Well if we keep Brown, I don't think he'll be getting any minutes. Only way he does get minutes is if he somehow loses a person by training camp, and impresses the hell out of Jim O'Brien otherwise he's an injured list player all season if he makes the team.

I actually want to see Brown in action because from what I've heard he's extremely athletic and has a decent three point shot and his forte is DEFENSE.

Too bad his work ethic is :cthread:.. He would have done something by now if he had what it takes to be good in this league.

Maybe they heard whispers of the buy-out and figured it would be easier and cheaper to just wait.

The Snow trade was a salary dump, we weren't going to get something great for him despite the fact that Houston and Indiana were interested in him.

Yeah, you're probably right about that, I didn't think about it that way. Either way I'm happy to be rid of him.

Larry Brown wanted him long-term for some damn reason. 12.9 million he has left on his contract. Ugh. It wouldn't be so bad, if he played, but he doesn't get any burn.

Well, Larry Brown isn't perfect. He obviously made a mistake and Philly is paying for that mistake.
