Minutes hard to come by for Salmons..
Quote:
The fact is, there are only so many minutes to go around in a basketball game.
And last week, Sixers coach Jim O'Brien mentioned the possibility of having a three-guard rotation, which would likely be Allen Iverson, Willie Green and Aaron McKie.
The Sixers have a logjam at small forward with players such as Glenn Robinson, Kyle Korver and Andre Iguodala.
So where does all this leave third-year guard/forward John Salmons? Salmons had a nice game in Tuesday's exhibition win over Washington, finishing with nine points, three rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes. But minutes will be harder to come by during the regular season.
"Johnny, I played him a lot at the one (point) during training camp, at the two (shooting guard) and he could play some three (small forward), but he's not really in the equation at the three spot right now," O'Brien said. "I would say that's Glenn, Kyle and Andre. Johnny's competing for time at the one and two.
"Johnny had a very good game the other night - he's had a very good training camp. I have a lot of confidence when John's on the court. I would say he's doing well in whatever battle there is for playing time."
Speaking of Salmons, the Sixers have until Oct. 31 to decide whether or not they're going to pick up his fourth-year option for next season (about $1.7 million). If they don't, Salmons, who is making about $926,000 this year, will become a free agent after the season.

It's looking more and more like Salmons is the odd man out in the rotation. After reading this, the statements we made in another thread about Kevin Ollie being his main competition for a active roster spot is true. If O'Brien feels comfortable playing Salmons at the point, we won't be seeing much of Ollie (which isn't exactly a bad thing), but we'd still be seeing 10 minutes max for Salmons.
After all this time, I don't see why coaches fall in love with Aaron McKie, maybe he'll show something tonight.

i havnet seen much 76ers games cause i live in australia, but from what i have seen .. i think salmons is much more of a better n complete player than korver.
From what i saw last season, Korver is only a 3pt speciailst, nothing more than that and if I was a coach, i would definitely prefer salmons over korver

John Salmons is a much more complete player than Korver, and I think he should honestly be considered more for a starting spot than he is. He can play 1-3, but with him not being considered at small forward, and McKie, Iverson, and Green being the three guard rotation you have to ask where Salmons fits.
I think skill wise he does fit in the O'Brien approach, because he plays defense well, but he's not the three point shooter Korver is, and that gives Korver the advantage.
He could help out some teams in this league, I wish we would try and get something for him, instead of just sitting on him.

I want to start Salmons at the two instead of Green.

Didn't you say a couple months ago that you wouldn't throw Salmons into a trade of Glenn Robinson for Antoine Walker?

That's when I was expecting him to get some burn. If you look at my posts back then, I was figuring he'd be the team's sixth man. Right now it's looking like he might not even be on the active roster, even though he should be.
In this position, it's better to try and get something for him instead of having him rot away on the bench.
