Iguodala continues to open eyes as season approaches..
Quote:
Remember how the 76ers slipped Andre Iguodala into town under a cloud of secrecy for a pre-NBA draft workout in June? The more the Sixers had done their homework, the more they worried that he might be gone before their No. 9 pick. They hoped if their level of interest wasn't public knowledge, they had a chance. They knew the 6-6, 2-year player from Arizona was the one they wanted.
They didn't worry about any supposed weakness in his jump shot. They saw the three triple-doubles he recorded as a sophomore. They saw the first player in the school's history to lead the team in rebounds, assists and steals in the same season. They saw him as the only Pac-10 player in the in the top 10 in assists and assists-to-turnovers ratio last season.
Don't look now, but the secret is out. Iguodala, 20, has been climbing the ladder since the day he arrived. It is not an accident that he earned the starting small forward job for Wednesday night's season opener in Boston ahead of 11-year veteran Glenn Robinson, a two-time All-Star.
|
Quote:
"It's scary to say, but I just can't believe he's a rookie, the way he's playing," Sixers star guard Allen Iverson said. "He came in, he goes about his business, he won the starting job."
Iguodala turned a lot of heads in the Sixers' final preseason game in New Jersey. There was an 8-foot floater he dropped in with his left - opposite - hand. There was a terrific high-post to low-post pass.
"He was hitting some crazy [stuff]," said the Nets' Richard Jefferson, himself a former Arizona star. "I was telling him that, too. Lefthanded floaters off the glass, long jumpers...yeah, he's a very good player."
In the end, Iguodala had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and the steals, with 6-for-9 floor shooting in 27 minutes.
None of which was any surprise to Jefferson.
"No, that's my man," Jefferson said. "I talked about him last year. He's going to be really good. I'm happy for him that he got the starting nod. I think things are going to go well for him.
"He gets his hands on everything [defensively]. He's going to be one of the league leaders in steals before it's all said and done. And he understands how to play. I mean, he knows the game - where to be and what to do."
Said Iverson: "The things he was doing [Thursday], I didn't know he had it, and I've been with him for a month. He just has that swagger about him. He steps on the court, he's not out there looking up to anybody. It's about him. He steps on the court, he feels like he's the real 'A.I.' I want him to feel that way, because it'll make it a lot easier for me."

I'm overly excited to see Iggy start the season this year. I can't wait to catch the Sixers in live NBA action once the season rolls around, .......tommorow. Iguodala is much better than people give him credit for. His athletiscm will help him tremendously.
How about this lineup for the 76'ers?
PG: Salmons
SG: Green
SF: Iguodala
PF: Williamson
C: Dalembert
That is all athletiscm. Nothing more, but athletiscm.

Salmons and Williamson aren't overly athletic.

I would even venture to say that Salmons at his height and length is under athletic. Williamson isnt that great of an athlete coming out of Arkansas and hes not one now.

I would disagree. Salmons is a very athletic player. He has good speed, great length, and a reasonably good leap. He can do multiple things on the court at a time, such as playing the 1, 2, or the 3 at no problem whatsoever. I would defiantly call that being athletic. He doesn't have it in the same regard as Iggy, but that doesn't mean that he isn't athletic. It's just that compared to Iggy, he is well overmatched.
I agree with the Williamson statement though. He's not that athletic. He's in great shape though.

Having played with Salmons when he was younger and watching him at Miami and in the NBA the only player I could say hes like is Reggie Miller. Who did not set the world on fire, with his athletic exploits. AS far as him being able to play the 1 2 and 3 spots. That has more to do with his skill set than being athletic. Hes a taller Aaron Mckie when he came out of college

Iverson is really athletic, but the sixers dont have any really athletic power forwards

Yeah, Iverson could still be our most athletic player.

i'd be really shocked if Iggy isn't top three in rookie of the year...
...and I definitely wouldn't be shocked if he takes the award home.

Just curious to see if someone can answer this, what hand is Iggy's strong hand? I've never heard anything about it, but how he uses his left (it almost seems like he prefers to use it) I'd think he was left handed, but people make a point of mentioning that.

iggy is a right hander.....never seen him use his left hand much in college, though he did occasionally. I too have noticed that a few recent articles made a point of mentioning his lefty floaters or whatnot

When the rotation is as deep as it is, minutes have to be sacrificed somewhere, I thought he played well but we needed Korver's perimeter scoring last night. It could very well be different tonight against Phoenix.

I doubt iggy would take away the award because he cant get enough minutes to put up ROY numbers.
On the other hand, Howard, Livingston and Oakfor are on pretty **** teams which means more minutes for them = better stats then iggy.
But iggy is the man !!!
Does he remind you of grant hill in anyway ?
