Iverson to miss Sunday's game Vs Heat..

Allen Iverson - out, right elbow contusion -- Will not travel to Miami for game on 11/21

It's strange how the Sixers kept this under wraps, but it's going to make this game Vs Miami even more difficult. It'll be interesting to see how the team reacts without Iverson, most likely Willie Green will be placed at PG, Iguodala at SG and Korver at SF.

If that's how it goes, it'll be interesting to say the least who will provide the energy off the bench, maybe Sammy will get more time against Shaq?

Now our players really have to step it up a notch. Perhaps we will perform better as a team without Iverson because we don't have him to depend on anymore. Remember last year there were strecthes where we played so well without him?

First-year 76ers coach Jim O'Brien said this was the best time for point guard Allen Iverson to rest his banged-up body. That is why the five-time all-star didn't make the trip to Miami yesterday for tonight's game against the Heat.

Officially, Iverson is out with a right-elbow contusion. He was injured diving for a loose ball with 29.9 seconds left in Thursday's 88-80 loss to visiting San Antonio.

But Iverson also has been nursing sore ankles. So O'Brien decided to rest him for a game and have him return for Wednesday's meeting with the Boston Celtics at the Wachovia Center.

"Allen has a banged-up elbow and sore ankles, and this is the first time we had a chance" to give him an extended rest, O'Brien said after yesterday's practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

"I think this is an ideal time for him to get healthier than he has been in the past. So I made the decision along with our medical staff that this is the best course of action."

The Sixers did not practice Friday. Iverson didn't practice yesterday, and O'Brien said he would not practice tomorrow, either. The coach indicated that it's possible that Iverson won't practice on Tuesday.

Iverson, who missed a career-high 34 games last season because of various injuries, is averaging 26.1 points, 7.2 assists, 4.78 turnovers and 42.1 minutes for the Sixers (4-5). He attended practice yesterday but didn't talk to reporters afterward.

"He wants to play every game, and I want him to play every game," O'Brien said. "But you don't have a potential to rest somebody like Allen six days many times in the season. I think you have to take advantage of it."

Six days rest? Hmm.. not a bad idea at all, we know Iverson has a habit of playing hurt and injuries continue to pile on as the season goes, it'll be interesting to see how he'll play in the Wednesday game Vs the Celts.

Iverson is going to come back strong, 50 points on O'Brien's former team. Jim is going to channel his fury through Iverson and the Celtics will be taken apart.

Allen Iverson, it turns out, will be doing more than giving out turkeys this week.

The 76ers point guard and leading scorer, who did not make the weekend trip to Miami while nursing an inflamed right elbow and two sore Achilles' tendons, is expected back in the lineup for tomorrow's home date with the Boston Celtics at the Wachovia Center.

Iverson, according to coach Jim O'Brien, participated in the team's light workout yesterday and will do so again today at the team's Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine practice facility.

"He's ready to go, full-out," O'Brien said. "We just went up and down without defense, working on the angles of our plays, but he'll go [today] and be ready to go against Boston."
