I'm not sure how many of you guys check this out, I have it linked in the Sixers Links up at the top of this forum, but it's worth checking out. He's an accomplished writer, a season ticket holder, and most importantly.. he's a 76ers fan and doesn't hold back.
He brings up some great points especially when it comes to O'Brien coaching the Sixers like today's entry..
Quote:
Am I the only person out here that gets the feeling that Coach Jim O'Brien is more interested in competing than winning? For the third game in a row the Sixers blew a second half lead and lost going away. This time it was to the Miami Heat 93-83. Let the record show that with 5:43 to go in the third quarter, the Sixers were winning 58-54 when O'Brien substituted Corliss Williamson for Kenny Thomas. Let the record also show, that after that, the Heat went on an 11-0 run, took the lead 65-58, and never looked back.
After the game, O'Brien said we gave up too many second shots. Is that right? Then why again, were your two best rebounders(Samuel Dalembert and Kenny Thomas) sitting for most of the game?
Right now, the coach gives me the distinct feeling that he didn't expect to win any of the last three games, and three of the better players from last season (Willie Green, Kenny Thomas, and Samuel Dalembert) are not only struggling, but often seem lost and lacking in confidence. In the final analysis that's on the players, but the coach doesn't seem to be helping them any. In fact right now, the only thing the coach seems to be helping, are the opposing teams.

if only Obie would read that, do u think he is developing a grudge towards Dalembert and he will soon (if he's not already) be in the dog house

O'Brien seems to have a way of not finding a way to get players on the court. It's like outside of a few guys (Willie Green, Iguodala) he thinks certain players can only play one position, so if one guy is playing better than another for a game or two, the other player will rot on the bench.
I honestly think if Kenny Thomas broke out one of these games in the first half, Williamson would still choke his minutes. Like I said in the Heat game thread, against certain teams you can mix and match players. Sure you don't want Marc Jackson playing PF in every game, but against a team like the Spurs it wouldn't hurt at times if you have Dalembert playing Center. Or like against Miami, it wouldn't hurt to play Kenny Thomas at SF next to Corliss. Yet we'll never see these combinations. It's honestly frustrating.

i agree with u Philly, my main complaint is not starting Dalembert, if he rots on the bench all season, do u see him playing on our team in a year or two? Probably not, there goes our future centre because our coach is a homer

If Sammy doesn't get time soon, I could see him forcing the Sixers to trade him with the threat that he'll play for the qualifying offer next year. From what I've been reading the Cavaliers really want him. It's frustrating to finally see a young talented big that we drafted late in the First, not get time when he deserves it. I guess Sammy's fouls are worse to O'Brien then the lack of rebounds Williamson pulls.

I have to disagree here. Dalembert is such an inconsistent player that he might be better comming off the bench 20-30 mpg. I also think you'll see his role gradually increase all season. Like Korver, Green, Salmons, and Williamson, I think O'Brien likes him better as a spark of the bench.

Why would you want CLEARLY the most HUSTLING,TALENTED,HARD-WORKING,ATHLETIC,LARGEST guy not to start and provide a "spark" while mediocre F**Ks jack up one bad shot after another...it's simple ! We have SIZE ! Something the East needs so desperately in Dalembert ! This kid is going to be a star someday !
O'Brien voiced concerns about Dalembert's "ability to handle the pressure and confidence level"....well then, do you think he's helping Sammy's confidence by making him sit on the bench for so damn long ??? I went to the Spurs game and Sammy was all over Duncan and he was pulling down one mean board after another on both ends ! We could have easilly won that game but hail the great ******* O'Brien who had to take him out and suddenly offensive boards became a non-factor for us and we were giving up boards every other possession....I kid you not...Corliss is a bench scrub at best, Skinner I had high hopes for but he's also a scrub...Jackson has very very good range, horrible, DISGUSTING defense...we need Dalembert...all of the changes our squad has gone through, AI becoming a true PG, Green and Korver becoming better and Iguodala being a revelation will go to down the drain if we don't have the proper frontcourt to support us....

You just answered your own question

Since when? And why would he?

I said he should play more minutes, I've never agreed with O'Brien not playing him, and I think he should be finishing. I don't see what the difference if you start 30 min. and finish the game, or come off of the bench, play 30 min. and finish the game. I said I wanted him coming off of the bench until he becomes a more consistent player, once he does I'm all for him starting
