Iguodala's performance against Celts draws attention..
Quote:
Anybody notice Andre Iguodala? The Sixers' rookie, making his second start at shooting guard after starting the first nine games at small forward, was virtually impossible to miss.
Go ahead, count the ways: In 43 breakneck minutes, Iguodala had seven points, nine rebounds, five assists, five steals and no turnovers. And he spent a major chunk of that time defending Paul Pierce, the Celtics' best player. Pierce had 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in 31 minutes, but was never able to take control of the game, shooting just 5-for-15 from the floor.
Coach Jim O'Brien says the Sixers' defense is anchored by ball pressure. By his staff's count, Iguodala had 10 of the team's 27 deflections as the Sixers ended a three-game losing streak.
"That's extraordinary,'' O'Brien said.
Iguodala, the No. 9 overall pick in the NBA's June draft, said he doesn't "look at the box score too much.''
"My whole thing is to just go out there and make something happen on the court, whether it's steals, deflections, making a good pass,'' he said. "I just want to impact the game any way possible. If I can set a great screen, or make a pass that makes a pass for a score possible, if I'm out there playing hard, as long as we get the 'W,' [I'm satisfied].''
These were all traits he saw in Grant Hill and Pierce as he was coming up.
"Grant was great at stuffing the stat sheet, being a complete player,'' Iguodala said. "That's what it came down to, wanting to do everything good, and taking pride in defense first and foremost. Usually, the player scoring the most points is the one who makes everything go. Pierce is that player for Boston. If he's on, they've got a great chance of winning; so far, he's been the toughest player for me to guard. He was the player I watched because of his moves in the post; I'm learning to use my own moves from him, how to get position, open up. He uses a lot of jab fakes, gets fouled a lot.''

Iggy is the blessing we've needed for so long...now if only Dalembert becomes as good as I know he will soon, we will win the Atlantic and go deep in the playoffs.
