Ok, since we all being discussing trading Iverson, we should just do a poll here ...

Will you still follow the 76ers after Iverson is traded ?

I certainly won't. His the reason why I love Philly, to me, here is the heart and soul of this team. If he's gone, it aint the same no more.

OOps .. i didnt add a poll, how do i add one now ?

Not sure, try asking a mod.

Personally, my first answer would be to reply with a big fat NO. He's one of my personal heroes, the player I've watched ever since I started getting into basketball. It inspired me so much that a relatively small man like him could play with so much passion and desire. I believe he is the very heart of the Sixers, and even if he's made a lot of mistakes during his career, I still follow and respect him. It pains me that he's seemed to have lost some respect, and that people think he is old and washed up. I would be disgusted if he's traded by this organization.

But I wouldn't be completely honest if I said that I would stop supporting the Sixers. Watching Iverson has also made me appreciate some of the other members. I'm intrigued by Korver's shooting proficiency, Thomas' rebounding prowess despite being undersized, Iguodala being a decent rookie, and of course, Dalembert, Green, etc. I personally find that the articles posted by PhillyPhanatic give considerable and interesting insights on the other players, and they make me appreciate the other, non-Iverson oriented facets of the team (thanks man).

So personally, I'm undecided. I would really detest the organization if they traded Iverson (much like Indiana trading R.Miller, etc), but I would still find solace in the fact that Philadelphia still has a few youngsters that would definitely be worth watching in the future.

One on one, even one on two, when the guy they call the Answer is on a one-way trip to the basket, you better just foul him. People can hate all day about the number of shot attempts. But, damn, give him props for even getting them up. He's small enough to have every shot contested. That 39% shooting sounds terrible to the regular reader, but have you seen these NBA players lately?"

Hypothetical questions. If you knew AI only had one good year left, would you deal him and your bad contracts for expiring contracts and picks to start over and rebuild?

If this turned the Sixers into a team similar to the Phoenix or Boston in terms of dismantling an average team for the sake of trying to become a good team in a span of two years, rather than slowly becoming a bad team, would this be something that interested you?

Unless you guys are more Iverson fans than Sixer fans.

I am a Sixers fan and being that made me an Iverson fan. I watched Iverson growing up through the past eight years and I love him just as much as I love this team. Even if he slows down and becomes a bad player with a large contract in a couple years I won't be upset about it because of everything he has given to Phildelphia and the Sixers. Those are memories and moments for me that can never be replaced.

If he does however get traded I would still follow him and cheer for him and his team unless they play the Sixers.

I'll admit that Iverson has made it a lot more fun to be a Sixers fan than it was during the whole period between drafting him and the departure of Barkley. But I was still watching this team when they were terrible, nothing would stop me from supporting the team.

i went to my first sixers game during stackhouses rookie year. i'll still be a sixer fan if AI is traded, but I don't think trading him is the right thing to do with this team. I think it would be a waste of the past 8 years. Keep him around, he's a winner, and you need guys like him on your team. Plus he practically symbolizes Philly.

I would still support them because i love their entire team, a lot of young good players that i like, but i would still be really pissed if they did because he has put so much into this organizatoin, just throwing it out the window would be kind of disrespectful

Two more questions:

1. If you knew trading AI that he would break down in a year, but the Sixers would be better off long term and improve the team and make the playoffs, would you still want to keep him?

2. If you kept him and the team swooned and he said wanted to be traded, what would you say then?

I mean it's pretty apparent that the days of AI winning in Philly seem to be over. The best you can hope for is mediocre.

on trading AI

Yes, I would still follow them. If I can follow them after they traded Barkley (and they were terrible), I can follow them if they decided to trade AI. We were so bad that we ended up w/ the #1 pick in the draft. Now, tell me this, how the hell can a center who is 7 foot 6 inches tall go (3 for 21) from the field??? That was a pathetic time to be a Sixer fan. Some of you know who I'm talking about.

AI: You could argue that this is the best time to do it. His stock is high. But, if we pull the trigger, we better get a superstar in return. There are some interesting names out there.

I don't want to speculate on who we can get but I'd want a package deal that'll bring us another star, preferably someone a little younger (Stevie Franchise maybe) and others of course.

As much as I don't want to see him leave, I have to agree with Philly Phanatic in one of his earlier post about this possibility, esp is we continue to lose.

Allen do me favor, would you please?

Name me the current superstars in the NBA, since you would have to trade one for AI and then look to see if any of them are movable. Like who do you consider a superstar and would that team trade them (taking into account age and team record).

I don't think we'd ever get equal value for AI in a trade. Look at what the Lakers got for Shaq. Or the Raps for Vince. We can go back and see what the Sixers got for Barkley. You tend to not get equal value back.

If we traded AI, expect this team to not have a leader, and to not get out of slumps when they fall behind. They'd be too inexperienced and young.

Trading AI would essentially blow up the team and have us rebuilding, I think.

Dude, as a Sixer fan, I don't want see my boy traded. But, I'm just being realistic. IF we had to trade him, which I don't think is out of the question, I'm just saying I want something equal in return.
If we're gonna be the recipients of a vince carter like trade, then, hell no. But I'm not the GM. I personally would want a Garnett, or Kobe (all is forgotten once he's a Sixer) in return but we all know that's unrealistic.

That's why I was asking, who would you like to see that is realistic. That's all I was asking. Like Steve Francis isn't realistic because Orlando is good and wouldn't want to rock the boat. I asked you a hypothetical and you give me KG and Kobe, two of the most untouchable players in the NBA.

First and foremost , thanks for whoever added the poll for me lol. I had trouble doing that

Onto AI, when you love a player, you'll stick with him no matter what he goes through, so the essence here is that if AI is 50 and still playing in the league, he is still my favourite.

Same as Vermillion, if AI is traded, Ill still follow Philly to some extent. But whether they stay my favourite ? I highly doubt it. I mean I love watching Iggy Sammy, but it aint right without AI. HE IS the heart and soul of our team. Trading him will seem like something is missing. Iam not talkign about winning a championship ring.

Iam an Iverson fan. I still see this man putting up a good 2 years at least. He just scored 50 - 50 back to back on great shooting and dishing out assists. He moved to PG, his body should be able to cope for few more years. Of cause he won't be the normal AI we saw in his MVP season, but does that mean his a bottom tier player. I don't think so. This man still got few years in him. I think his having his best season for the last 2 years.

HKF, Iverson has being in this team ever since the beginning. He was here when Philly was at the bottom, he carried this team up
on his own shoulders with no help. His being bagged out by the Philly press. Iverson has being there when this team was at the bottom of the ladder. Did he once complained about getting traded ? If he wants to get traded, then maybe he feels he can no longer can carry the team. I'll be happy to let him go cause of all he done in the past.
