Sixers-Wolves Desperation Deadline Deal: Love it? Hate it?
Obviously Sixers fans want to call AI their own and this is a front office move, not a fan move, but is Philly even going to make the playoffs?
Philadelphia trades: PG Allen Iverson (29.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 7.6 apg in 42.2 minutes)
PF Kenny Thomas (11.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.6 apg in 28.6 minutes)
Philadelphia receives: SG Latrell Sprewell (12.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.3 apg in 31.1 minutes)
C Ervin Johnson (1.5 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 0.1 apg in 9.1 minutes)
PF Eddie Griffin (8.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 0.8 apg in 21.3 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -19.0 ppg, +1.0 rpg, and -6.0 apg.
Minnesota trades: SG Latrell Sprewell (12.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.3 apg in 31.1 minutes)
C Ervin Johnson (1.5 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 0.1 apg in 9.1 minutes)
PF Eddie Griffin (8.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 0.8 apg in 21.3 minutes)
Minnesota receives: PG Allen Iverson (29.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 7.6 apg in 42.2 minutes)
PF Kenny Thomas (11.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.6 apg in 28.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +19.0 ppg, -1.0 rpg, and +6.0 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED
Even with two $12M+ deals expiring, Erv expiring, and AI/KT gone, King would still have about $37 M in salary if McCullough counts. Lovely, isn't it? One more year for the young player to develop could put the team in the Oden sweepstakes to go with Iguodala, etc.

Not only Allen Iverson, but Kenny Thomas as well? If the Sixers bended over any further in this fantasy deal they'd be stepping on their heads.
I think the T-Wolves are in more of a panic mode than the Sixers, heck don't the two teams have just about (if not identical) records?

Only if Bruce Ratner was looking to purchase the team.

That would be a dream come true for me, seeing AI and KG, 2 of my favorite players playing together...but in all seriousness, this is not happening...Boston lost tonight and if the Sixers can go on a run we'll win the Atlantic, win 3rd seed and will probably play someone like Orlando or a team that we can beat. Going somewhat deep in the play-offs is always a good thing.

No, I wouldn't want to part with Iverson for cap space.

Re: Sixers-Wolves Desperation Deadline Deal: Love it? Hate it?
Why would the sixers trade Iverson and Kenny Thomas for cap space?

Fine. The team (well, before the Wbber trade) was/is a poorman's version of 01-02 and 02-03. It might still be in 06-07 with McKie, Big Jack, and maybe Korver making theirs, give or take a few Ollies and McCulloughs. Plus there's Webber and AI.
IMO, The 3 seed will lose in the first round.

It's a moot point now, but the whole plan behind your trade was getting into a better position to draft Greg Oden in the 2006 draft. What happens if the new CBA put on an age limit, the Sixers would practically be assed out in this deal.
The thing I don't get, is that you have the Sixers like they're panicking, but the T-Wolves are actually in a worse position in comparison to what was expected of them than the Sixers. It just didn't make much sense, it was like a fantasy deal that was extremely slanted in the T-Wolves favor when we all know that McHale isn't that good of a GM.

Re: Sixers-Wolves Desperation Deadline Deal: Love it? Hate it?
So why should the Sixers have had that little expected of them?
The "plan" was too rely on Iguodala, Korver, Green, etc. and maybe even Griffin in the near future. Instead of keeping AI and supporting him, which didn't work up to the deadline in 04-05, I figured there might have to be a change before 06-07 or 07-08 and not MLE's. And hell yeah I wanted him in Minnesota. Maybe KT is too good to include.
Why the Sixers youngins' (plus Minnesota picks)? They're young and appear to be only complementary pieces, thus needing AI... but this team wasn't really competitive in the East. They're 9th and haven't really been able to soldifiy themselves in the league's top half. It's debatable whether $30, $15, etc. over the cap is strangling a team with the money in a detached sense. Whatever entity owns the Sixers is probably making plenty of money even in non-playoff years, but they still have a large payroll compared to many teams.
Well if the CBA has an age limit, you had me.
King has pulled some strings... Snow's deal is gone, and now the Webber trade. I don't really see the point of the Hornets deal.
