Do the new trades make us contenders?
I can't help but think so guys. This is great.
Even though Webber has been fragile, this season he is having arguably his BEST. I really think that this will make us in the running. To tell you the truth, Miami isnt all that impressive now. Even though Shaq will be Shaq, Chris will provide us with that inside scoring. Lets just hope he doesnt bring it outside to settle for elbow J's.
Anyway, great day to be a sixer fan.

Re: Do the new trades make us contenders?
Talent-wise I think the team is good enough to be a contender. Now it's all about how fast these guys can mesh, since we're currently on the outside looking in at the playoffs. There's no doubt that we're a better team right now than we were the last time we played.

Hell yeah, yall are contenders now...In my opinion yall are the 3rd best team in the East now..
Pistons
Indy
Sixers
Heat
what makes this move so tight is that yall didnt have to give up Korver or Ingladala(sp)...too bad they wouldnt take Robinson

Re: Do the new trades make us contenders?
I thought we were a playoff team but i didnt think wed make any noise, but if they mesh well i think we could be a sleeper team in the East.

Re: Do the new trades make us contenders?
I'm surprised you even had to ask? Of course we're contenders.
I was just hoping to get a Dale Davis or a big man to help us up front but not in my wildest dreams thought we would land C-Webb. NEVER.
Another couple hours b4 we roll the knicks.
Later.

Re: Do the new trades make us contenders?
I think we're contenders. I think we're deeper then the Heat
Starters
Allen Iverson > Dwyane Wade
Andre Iguodala = Damon Jones (they do completely different things, but I didn't want to have Iverson against Damon and Wade against Iggy, these two probably affect there teams a similar amount)
Kyle Korver = Eddie Jones (Both are good shooters, with Kyle being the better one, but Eddie is better on defense)
Chris Webber > Udonis Haslem
Samuel Dalembert < Shaq
Bench
Willie Green > Keyon Dooling
John Salmons > Shandon Anderson
Matt Barnes = Rasual Butler (from what I've seen, the only thing that Rasual has on Matt is shooting. Matt is a good rebounder and overall player, good bench player. I haven't seen either play much, so if I'm wrong, please correct me)
Rodney Rogers > Malik Allen
Marc Jackson > Michael Doleac
Outside of Shaq and Wade, the Heat don't have that much. They have 3 decent role players in the starting line up, but their bench is pretty weak

I don't see how you could have INDY as the second best team.

Re: Do the new trades make us contenders?
Contenders for the Atlantic division and Eastern Conference maybe, but not championship contenders. We need our young guys to improve more and have Iverson and Webber playing at their best to move up a notch.

I know he plays SG, did you not read what I said in the bracket?
And how is Dooling better then Green? And how is Marc Jackson equal to Michael Doleac? And how come you didn't list the rest of the bench?
I never said we are better then Miami, but we have more depth.

My $.02
As a Bulls' fan, I think this trade made you MUCH better. Boston got better, too.
Both teams face the same problem. You have to MAKE the playoffs. One of the two teams is the likely division winner, and gets in. The other is going to have to beat out the Bulls, the Pacers, or Orlando.
For grins, if the Bulls go .500 the rest of the way and finish in 8th seed, Philly would have to go 18-11 in the last 29 games to take away the 8th spot.
All I can say is you better win the division if you want to be sure.

I couldn't agree more, and that's why I think I took the loss to the Knicks harder than others. Sure it's just one game, but it was a winnable game before the Sixers just fell apart in the second half. Now that leaves us with 28 games left, at two games under .500, we know they'll be some growing pains for the new roster, but hopefully we win while we have them.
The more I think about the Knicks game, the more I refuel my disdain for O'Brien, who in their right mind would play Marc Jackson for 43 minutes? 43 minutes and five rebounds, that's almost one rebound for every nine minutes he played.
I swear, Jim O'Brien is this team's own worst enemy.
