Do you think this is Billy King's last stand?
Do you think if Maurice Cheeks doesn't pan out, that Billy King will be shown the door?
There are two schools of thought when it comes to King, and they are obviously the only two choice, yes or no. One group says the pressure is on him, the other says he's got as long as he wants.
I'm part of the second party, and my reasoning is things like the following:
Quote:
''Billy has done a tremendous job; he's a top-notch executive,'' Snider said after general manager Billy King announced the latest coaching shuffle. ''I think he's going to be an executive for us for a long, long time, as long as he wants to be. I know how his mind works, how he makes decisions, and I think we're very lucky to have him.''
One needs only to look at the other sports organization in the Comcast-Spectacor empire to see what having Snider's support means. Paying off three head coaches probably isn't even a personal record for Snider — between 1993 and 2003, Flyers general manager Bob Clarke went through eight coaches.
But not once did Snider, who has owned the Flyers since their inception in 1967, question the former Hall of Fame player who captained the franchise's only two Stanley Cup winners in 1974 and '75.
Obviously, King never played for Snider, but he now appears to have obtained the same relationship with Snider held by Clarke. King recently signed a multi-year contract extension, and Monday Snider said he ''absolutely'' has faith in the man who makes the decisions for his franchise.
''I really don't question Billy at all, because I know what went into his thinking process,'' Snider said. ''He discussed it at great length with me on each and every coach, and I think there was validity in what happened. So I don't second-guess.''

We're dealing with a guy in Ed Snider who likes sports, but doesn't mess with the operation of the team, unless the team is absolutely pathetic (then he won't mind tearing into King in the crowd during a blowout loss). I don't see this ledge that some assume Billy King is about to fall off of, but for others it's so apparent that they don't feel the need to explain it.
So I'm curious, do you think Maurice Cheeks controls Billy King's fate as Sixers President?

Re: Do you think this is Billy King's last stand?
It's really hard to tell. I think Billy King is highly regarded as a GM by Ed Snider and for what reason I don't know. But, this will be the fourth coach in three years and our team situation is getting more and more frustrating especially since we're not winning anything. I think that even if Maurice doesn't do as well as anticipated Billy King will retain his job for a year or two and then will finally be canned after he is finally exposed to the ownership.

Re: Do you think this is Billy King's last stand?
Personally I do not think so, Randy ayers was basically Billy's only choice left, Jim O'brien was the best coach possible for the job as Doc rivers had enough of Mcgrady and considered Ai a better him, I do not think Billy King has made any legitmate mistakes in the past 3 years given the situation. Prior to that King has made some risk taking moves such as the Ratliff for Motombo move, I liked that move a little Motombo blocked some shots and was able to Camp in the lane real long especially while facing O'neal, how about when he traded Mohammed Bad move, I don't care how bad he did with the Knicks that trade tore down his confidence and it shows in his game today, we let go of a supposed to be real domiant center, I agree with signing Allen Iverson long term, but when Bk and LB signed Eric Snow for four years I thought that was the real thing that made Billy King's Job in Jepordary, it's a good thing he removed East snow or we'd be in a worse situation then we are now. The only other thing that legitmately hurted is that he didn't draft Webber, I think that lottery was after the Ai one, we would've been signifcantly better infact we would've saved Webber the pain of his Injury ah if we could only predict the future. Yea he's made some bone-headed moves in the past, some even costed us a title or money. But he's still in my mind one of the top if not the best General manager of all time in the Youth standards, I don't think he'll ever match up to the Petrie brothers, no they got themselves a good deal in the Webber deal, we'll get a ring or two but Sacramento will get more rings as there players will last a little longer, and or they'll trade those players for one star, but there pretty much Unmovable no one wants them so it was an equil trade for both sides. So this will not and NEVER will impact Billy King's job, the only thing at this point would make Ed snider even think of a different direction would be WOULD be if we had another record like the time we had that 18-64 record. That was the year Allen Iverson crossed Over Michael Jordan. But that's never going to Happen, Billy insured us of Playoff dynasty, He's a year or two away from getting depth, but if we can hold on for just a bit longer, which I am sure everyone else but me cannot do. We will be insured of a dynasty. The wait has been Chaotic and somestimes saddening to Philadelphians whom are interested in the sports team and the sports they love, but in the long run it will all be for it, i'm not mad at King, we're not perfect no body is in the NBA world of today, sometimes Error makes sucesss and sucess makes failure.

Re: Do you think this is Billy King's last stand?
Billy King's job is safe. I actually have a favorable opinion of him now that the Larry Brown influence is gone. He was on my shiit list for a long time. Although the Webber trade was a gamble, it had to be made. This team needed some glimmer of hope.
I know many of you don't approve of the Cheeks hiring, but I prefer him over what we had. At least he will let the players play. I'll guarantee you if Green is re-signed, he will have a more defined role next season; everyone will know their roles.
If all these things don't work out in our quest for a ring, BK's tenure as GM will be in jeopardy along with everyone else on the team.
