Philly aiming for Mediocraty
This may not be a popular post, but it has to be asked.
Is this franchise happy just slidding into the post-season and making an early exit?
It seems that Dalembert can ball a little, but he definitely wasn't worth the fatty deal he just received. Korver can shoot the 3, but he said he's more comfortable shooting the 3 than an 18-footer?
This team is built for .500 ball or maybe just a few games above that. I know talent is hard to come by, but this team just doesn't look like they can seriously compete for the ECF let alone the NBA championship.
CWebb will hopefully get healthier and Dalembert, Korver, and Greene still have growing to do, but is this team really anything more than .500?
Convince me!
sidenote: Nuggets fan here, who also realizes that that team is hurting to get over the .500 hump too.

Denver has been over 500 each of the last 2 years. Yes Mediocrity does explain the franchise that I call my favorite team.

Re: Philly aiming for Mediocraty
Well, are they still going to give Willie "I'm an idiot" Green a contract, even though he got hurt? If so, how could you deny they are aiming for mediocrity.

Re: Philly aiming for Mediocraty
I would say that they are happy right now with just making the playoffs and making an early exit. Although it is hard for them to put together a team right now. I don't know what they are waiting for. They should atleast try something. Maybe trading Iverson soon wouldnt be a bad idea. Just my opinion.

I think instead of the 6 for 20. They will probably give him 6 for 18, because he was being so dumb

I think we all should wait until the trades and FA signings are over with and we're heading into training camp before we know what team we actually have.

Yeah Denver has been over .500, but not by leaps and bounds! That's all I meant. Stepping from a playoff team to an elite team.

Re: Philly aiming for Mediocraty
You're not exactly ruffling any feathers here, as many of us here have been resigned to the fact that they aren't built to do anything in the playoffs.

Re: Philly aiming for Mediocraty
Well, compare this roster too the one that went to the finals
Iggy > Snow
Korver = Lynch(just differing strengths)
Hill = Webber(Same, and I don't think Webber's getting much better)
Dalembert = Mutumbo
The question here is AI. I think that he was better last year than he was in 01, and if he can maintain that form, the sixers are a very good team. Not to mention that with Dalembert down low they can go back to pressing the three point line and gambling for steals, covering Korver's lack of lateral quickness(leaving only the mid-range open) and making AI and Iggy much more deadly than he and Snow were.
And the possible image of Dalembert and Hunter(who met with Maurice Cheeks after the Jackson trade and was "impressed") playing at the same time makes me smile.
If possible, I would like to sign a bruiser-type PF(If one of the rookies don't qualify as that), Maybe Danny Fortson or Dale Davis would take the LLE.
The only problem with this is that it doesn't leave roster space or cap space open for, say, a Raja Bell.
Do you think ATL would trade Boris Diaw for Salmons(and his exp. contract)? Even though I have more faith in Salmons this year than most.

Re: Philly aiming for Mediocraty
Plus Diaw is about to join Bell in Phoenix.
Dalembert is not yet equal to Mutombo. Mutombo had more offense then than Dalembert has now, but he's still improving.

Re: Philly aiming for Mediocraty
Plus the year the Sixers went to the Finals, is not the same Eastern Conference it is now. You got the Pistons, Heat and Pacers who are all title contenders. The East from a period of 2000-2003 seemed to be a fluke bunch of years, where the title contenders could have been anyone.

You're overlooking the fact that the Sixers team that went to the Finals had two chemistry, and continuity. The core played together for years and everyone on the team knew their roles. Also like HKF pointed out the Eastern Conference that year was in flux, especially after the Pacers tore their team apart.
One more thing, Samuel Dalembert and Steven Hunter isn't a good combination.. not even close to it.
