Possible look heading into training camp

PG: AI/ Williams
SG: Iggy/ Green?/Flip?
SF: Jalen Rose / Korver
PF: Webber/ Dale Davis
C: Sammy/ Steven Hunter

That's if everything goes our way with the amnesty cuts and we get both bigs we're targeting. Best case scenario in a lot of ways. We could package Mashburn's contract with the trade exception to get Rose if he isn't cut. Some speculation over the luxury tax. It seems the cap is set at 49.7 mill and the threshold before you get charged the tax is 61.7 mill. That opens up more money, and if McKie gets the amnesty cut, we're going to be under the cap a decent amount. Getting rid of Jackson freed up 9 million total over the next two years, and gave us 4.5 million back in trade exception. Coupled with our LLE and MLE, we may be able to afford all of this without getting nailed with the luxury tax.

Personally I think this lineup would have the pieces we're needing to push us into the elite. Should be interesting to see how it plays out this coming Monday. Toronto is expected to cut Zo to get rid of his contract numbers from its books. Maybe a deal can be arranged to land Jalen. I think he would be the perfect fit at SF for this team.

Hunter and Davis give us a very solid rotation in the front court. Davis can defend, rebound and provide the beef that Jackson gave us. Hunter can bring athleticism, shot blocking, defense, and rebounding. The question mark is now what to do behind Iggy at the 2 spot. BK said he's going to wait it out until after Green's surgery to see what type of an impact it will have. Personally, I'm hoping that this means Green gets a lower contract so we can fit in Flip, who is taller.

Re: Possible look heading into training camp

Only thing is, if Flip comes in hes not coming in to be 3rd string hes much more talented than that and hes a hell of alot more talented than Green. If anything he pushes Iggy to the 3 and he plays the 2

I agree, I'd take Flip over Green anyday of the week. I don't know if he would beat out Iggy for the 2 spot or Rose for the 3 spot though, so thats why I put him on the bench.

I don't think you can package the trade exception alongside a player.

You can package it with a player, but not with the MLE or LLE from what I've read. I got that from these rules posted on ESPN:

" I just checked the CBA and here are some facts on the trade exception.

1. We did not recieve NJ's trade exception.
2. We did recieve our own trade exception equal to MJ's contract (the cash we traded doesn't count towards salary matching).
3. NJ most likely used its remaining MLE to make this work for them.
4. The trade exception can not be used to sign a FA it must be used in a trade/ trades (if its 4.9 mil then you can use 2.9 on one trade and 2.0 on another).
5. It can be used in a trade with a player to make salaries match (trade a 6 mil player and 4 mil exception for a 10 mil player).
6. It can not be combined with another exception to make a trade work (MLE and trade exception for a player. 5 mil trade exception for 6 mil player using the $100,000 and 115% rule. 2 trade exceptions for one player)."

From what I understand you can't trade the MLE, or LLE those can only be used when signing a player who is a free agent.

The Nets used their trade exception to get Marc Jackson, but we didn't get their exception we got a new one that was equal to the one they used. If that makes sense.

Yeah. For Rose what I'm thinking is if he doesn't get the amnesty cut (where we could combine the LLE and whats left of the MLE after dumping McKie's contract to free up space) we can package Mashburn with the trade exception, which would come out to roughly 13-14mil for Rose.

Huge salary dump for Toronto, a 2 year committment to webber and ai with rose, while with the hunter and sammy signing gives us two young centers with potential for the future.
