Green Playing up to expectations

Quote:
A year ago, you couldn't have blamed Willie Green if he was uncertain or unsure about the future of his NBA career.

The former second-round pick of the Seattle SuperSonics, acquired by the Sixers in a draft day trade, was recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee for the majority of the 2005-2006 season.

Green was re-signed by the Sixers on March 23 of last year. A little over a week later, he played the first of the team's final 10 games of the season.

Exactly a year later, Green is again getting ready for the home stretch. Except this season he's playing healthy and pain free. And the Sixers are seeing results.

Green, who is averaging just under 11 points per game this season, has made 13 straight starts. In that span, the the Detroit-Mercy product has posted 13.4 points per game on 44.5 percent shooting in helping the Sixers to a 9-4 record.

"I just go out there, play my game (and) do what I'm supposed to do on the floor -- be aggressive on both ends," said Green, who helped sparked the Sixers second-half comeback at Miami on Saturday.

Green, who scared onlookers at the end of a practice late last week when he fell awkwardly and grabbed his left leg, said he's also done his best to forget about last year's injury.

"I really don't think about it as much -- that was more my ankle than my knee," Green said, referring to what looked like a near-scare last week. "When you go out on the floor, you just go out and play and let everything fall where it may."

This season, his fourth as a pro, Green has thrived as a starter. In 27 games in the starting five, Green is averaging 15 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
