Sixers waive Byars
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/scorec...ticleID=213546
Quote:
The Philadelphia 76ers waived rookie guard/forward Derrick Byars Monday, team president Billy King announced, reducing their roster to 15 players.
Byars, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound swingman out of Vanderbilt, was drafted with the 42nd overall pick in the June draft by the Portland Trail Blazers and traded to the Sixers for the rights to Petteri Koponen, the 30th overall pick.
In 2006-07, his second season at Vanderbilt following a transfer from Virginia, Byars was named SEC Player of the Year while averaging 17 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. He also led the Commodores to the NCAA tournament's Sweet 16 before losing to Georgetown.

I don't get it. Why not just send him to the D-League?

Re: Sixers waive Byars
This doesn't make sense. He was supposed to be something wasn't he? I'm positive he will find a new team very very soon.

Can only have 15 under contract and Byars was #16 because Calvin Booth is just so valuable.

Re: Sixers waive Byars
I hope Joe D takes a look. He's got to be better than Sammy or Dupree.

Re: Sixers waive Byars
God bless the Bobcats. With Morrison out all year they could use Byars.

Re: Sixers waive Byars
D-League,and i would even say another scenario they could do if they think he wasn´t that ready ,they could sent him to a European team to develop him as a player and in the contract they could make a line saying he would be a player for Sixers in the next season ,trade a draft pick for another and at the end get nothing on a project of rebuilding the team with young players this a nonsense move, but we allready should be used to some wierd moves from the technicall staff.

Re: Sixers waive Byars
Can he play D-League if he isn't on any teams? I forgot how that works. I hope for his sake someone here picks him up, but overseas isn't unreasonable.

Re: Sixers waive Byars
Probably felt he needed to keep Booth due to the Dalembert injury.
