Why are the Sixers reluctant to use the D-League?

There are two questions involved in this post. They're related and they both frustrate me when it comes to this team.

First question:
Even though the Sixers are a bad team, why do they refuse to play the youngest players? What's the point of losing games if these players (Thad Young, Herbert Hill) aren't getting tick?

Second question:
If these guys (Young, Hill) aren't playing why don't the Sixers send them down to the D-League? Let them get some playing time down there against a lower level of talent and gain confidence. Watch film on them and see exactly where they are in a game setting. If they're good enough then call them back up.

Having these guys redshirt is a pointless endeavor. For all intents and purposes they are practice squad players at this point. Are they more worried about the practices than player development or what?

I was complaining a few years ago about their reluctance to send Louis Williams down there. Instead they wasted a year with him on the end of the bench. When they finally sent him down, alongside Bobby Jones, they pulled him up after three games. The reason was because he dominated. He was capable of doing the same things his rookie year as well, but they didn't send him.

Another level of this complaint is the fact that Louis Williams isn't playing more minutes. I don't follow that +/-, GPS, or whatever the hell other computer stats they have.. but one thing I have noticed is that the team seems to play better when Williams is on the floor. He's good at driving and kicking to the open man (when there's movement). Yet he's on the pine, or playing the two, while Andre Miller is posting up ten times while dribbling the hell out of the ball on one possession.

I really think now with changes in management this might be utilized even though I dont know of any Nets players that had ever been assigned to the D-League

They should stuff Carney down there for a year or two and see if he can develop some game.
Theres no reason why Lou shouldnt be seeing 15 minutes a game at this point. He can get to the rack,he can create his own shot, he hustles and plays defense (although it needs some work) and he's far more athletic than he appears to be. They really need to focus on developing him and getting him more minutes.

I agree. Cheeks' benching of his young players is ridiculous. There's absolutely no reason for Giricek to be playing more than Carney or Young, for example.

Time and time again. Maurice Cheeks has no business being a head coach in this league. He would be better off being an assistant. Im not a fan of how he does things and you see a lot of Larry Brown in how he coaches
