A.I. Trade 1-year later: Was it the "Answer"?
Exactly one year from the worst day in the history of me being a Philadelphia 76ers fan I got to thinking: was that trade the answer? Was trading the most beloved basketball player in Philadelphia since Dr. J the right move to turn around the Sixers’ plummeting attendance and unbearable performance?

Re: A.I. Trade 1-year later: Was it the "Answer"?
It was about even for both teams. The Bryars thing was wierd, but the team was going nowhere. We still need a really good big, but we'll have a good amount of cap room. with a top 5-7 pick this year, and a good free agent pick-up, the sixers can be right back in the playoff hunt.
If anything, it's denver who's got the short end. AI's a much better player, but him and carmelo both stop the ball too much, it just doesn't work.
I would've rather seen a Grant Hill trade for him.

The Sixers suck now but they weren't going anywhere with Iverson so they had to make a change. Now they just need to land another franchise player and build around that.

Yea it was a rather crappy move looking back a year later. Andre Miller and Jason Smith for Iverson doesn't cut it. Iggy is a 3rd star MAYBE a 2nd star but still far from having a new franchise player and there's still stuff that could go wrong: If they pay out the arse for Iggy that's in part due to the Iverson trade; also need to see what happens if/when they trade Dre Miller as well.

You guys should have gotten more out of AI.

They cap a huge amount of cap relief and a fresh atmosphere around the team, plus two draft picks.
It's the mishandling of the last pick that I find unforgivable.

At one stage of the year last year they were looking like the worst team in the league, which would have been good for them because then you get Oden or Durant, but then for some reason they decided to start winning games at the end of last year which cost them a good draft pick. That's something I never understood.

Re: A.I. Trade 1-year later: Was it the "Answer"?
Ed Snider and Billy King teamed together to get trash in return.
King held onto Miller past the trade deadline (when he was a hot commodity) ended up trading the third first to Portland to get Byars only to cut him. They wanted to send Byars overseas, meanwhile Portland has the Sixers select Kopponen who is currently playing overseas.
It was a good setup trade that the Sixers could've turned into more but they sat on it. King actually turned Miller into the team's centerpiece. lol

Re: A.I. Trade 1-year later: Was it the "Answer"?
It was a pretty bad trade. You guys didn't get much in return. I was hopping more first rounders. Anyway, it looks like Iggy is not staying after this season. It can be tough rebuilding this team though. 10 years? like the Hawks?

Re: A.I. Trade 1-year later: Was it the "Answer"?
Tough to get much more than they got. AI had a huge contract and the team needed veteran leadership. Bringing in Miller made sense to get the young guys on the same page. I think the team is in much better shape cap wise and draft wise because of the trade, but I still think they dont know how to friggin draft which is unfortunate. How many athletic small forwards must you draft before you get it right ???

Agreed, things like this is why Billy King will never get another BM/VP job in the league. His resume is filled with moves like that.
