Re: Concerning Iguodala....
Coming into this season there were several questions about Iguodala.
1.)Can he take on the role of leader?
2.)Can he improve his jumpshot?
3.)Can he take on the scoring load with defenses focused on him?
4.)Can he limit his turnovers?
As it stands right now there's no player more important to the Sixers' current success than Iguodala. This isn't shortchanging Miller at all because he's a huge part of this as well. It's obvious though that where Iguodala goes this team goes. Watching games you can see him constantly communicating with his teammates on what they should've done.
His shot has improved but it's far from automatic. As it stands right now he shares end of game shots with Miller, but considering how far his shot has come I wouldn't be shocked to see him being more money. On the season he's 32% from 3, and 45% from the field.. but in March he's averaging 21.9 PPG, 50% FG%, 42% 3P%, 4.7 RPG, 4.4 APG, 1.8 SPG in 40 MPG. He might never be a guy who will be scoring as much as the Carmelo's, Lebron's, Kobe's and Dwyane's of the world but he makes up for it with everything else he can do on the floor.
He has proven in the meantime that when the team needs him to score he can take the scoring load on his back, but with how the team is being built I don't feel he'll ever need to carry the load. The days of one player carrying the load scoring with the rest just coming along for the ride are over (if they ever existed) it's all about a bunch of guys who can take on the scoring load on any given night.
I think what's impressive is even when he scores a load he's not stunting the offense. He still finds his points in the flow of the game even when he's looking for his offense. He also doesn't force it and will feed the hot hand of a teammate when it calls for it.
He's also limited his turnovers and in the last month he's averaging about a 2 to 1 Assist/TO ratio.
I think the positive thing with Iguodala is that he still has room to improve. He has gotten better every season and considering his work ethic I could see him as the type of player who adds new tricks every offseason. In my mind he's solidified himself as a star player. Now will he be able to make the jump to All-Star or Superstar? That's completely up to him. But I'd say if the Sixers are off to a successful start next season he'll probably be beneficiary of an All-Star bid.
