Question: How do you guys feel about John Salmons???

I've seen him play and his best asset is his versatility. But I would like to know how you guys fele about him. They have his comparable upside to Jalen Rose and his downside comparable to Felipe Lopez. So tell me what ya think

I liked him in college as a player who helped his team win without showtime.Actually, I think McKie's many injuries got the 76ers thinking about that type of player in the future. McKie is a prototypical Brown player, and an experienced Salmons could fill that role.

I like Clancy even better, but he will be on IR all year because of Brown's seniority system. His father was an all-pro defensive end and he is strong with some speed. Is it enough? He can hit the 15 footer regularly, which Lynch could not. I think he could be a better Lynch.

Since the 76ers do not have the personnel to be a big winner conventionally, trying to recreate the 2000-2001 season with replacements is my placebo.

I know if they play a lot of Clancy, Salmons and Dalembert/Jones they will lose some winnable games. Can Philadelphia deal with an unofficial rebuild? Probably not.I think Croce would go that way. They will probably win a few more games with the veteran journeymen, but have no player development. So they could be a better team and a worse franchise, if you understand my meaning.

personally ................

I like Salmons, and it is funy that you compared him to Rose. Because when Brown and Rose were together in Indy, Rose barely saw the floor, and I dont want that to happen to Johnny, I think we need him and Samuel to develop this year to actually have a somewhat decent future to look forward too.

Its good that he is versatile, which means he should get more playing time, becuase the more places u play the more u can play.
We will see soon hopefully/

Well as far as that goes I dont know why Larry Brown even drafts or attempts to get younger players because he doesnt bring them along. I would like larry brown to allow Salmons to find the position he is most comfortable with and flourish that way. At the same time being as versatile as he is, could play those other positions with ease being that hes learning a system

My draft day analysis theory was that the 76ers took more mature players, seniors, because Brown could work with them .
Thomas , Hughes, Jones etc were talents but inexperienced. He did well with MacCullough, a senior second rounder who plays smart for a young player.

We will see if that is true. I have noted my concern, with which some have disagreed, that so many new journeymen role players will slow the progress of the more "mature " rookies.

Despite the awful East, with no defensive center (at least who can play many minutes without hurting you majorly in other ways), they are not a real strong contender. I'm willing to suffer a bit with Salmons and Clancy when he is ready, and hope to improve as the playoffs come on and next year, rather than coast with the journeymen, who can get no better.

If your worldview is the the 76ers are a strong contender, adding ther journeymen and IR ing (new NBA word) the rookies makes sense.Unless of course, they are just flat out better despite their age.

Unforunately that wont happen as long as LB is at the Helm. Rookies dont play and he acts as if they dont get it right the first time they are not playing the "right way"

so far

I think John has been playing a nice role. He seems to fit in, and doesnt look nervous. He has been pretty comfortable beyond the 3 line. I imagine in a few years he could solidly contribute. But for the time being he will most likely play his small role as a fill in sub at the end of quarters.

I think he isn't bad, he will be used to give guys like McKie a rest and hopefully fill in for them adequately when we have injuries (which is something we're used to).

I am liking this pick less and less. I just dont see anything worth getting excited over him for.

Larry Brown siad he likes smart players and I'm all for that, but I must ask the question. When he palys he never and I mean never uses his height and length to his advantage. Hopefully its because hes a rookie

yea

Johnny really has been given an oppurtunity to come out, but we are deep with mediocre talent. He had 9 asssists against the Mavs in January but beyond that he hasn't really showed hes better then others in his short time. I like his occasional 3's though, its potential.
