To tank or not to tank?

Making the playoffs is the 76ers' only goal...

Quote:
The Philadelphia 76ers' goal used to be reaching the NBA Finals. Now, it's simply making the playoffs.
Quote:
Team president Billy King said he will aggressively pursue a trade before next week's deadline, but his options are limited. Iverson is the only real commodity and it's difficult to get equal value in a trade for a star player.
Quote:
Or, King might scrap most of the team and start over.
What do you think?

I think King is going to make a trade that's looking out for the short term. I know that's an asinine comment since we all know that, but when you're as bad as the Sixers are right now, wouldn't you think you'd start thinking about the future for a change?

the tanking could very well take care of itself. improvement through the draft seems like this teams only real hope. they have some great pieces in place but need a good big man to take them back to the top of the east. i'd love to see AI joined by a player like Okafor.

I hate the idea of losing, that is why i have such a problem with losing.

Tanking is probably the best idea of all. Going thru one or more good drafts should be able to make this team a powerhouse for the future.

I also think that tanking is our best bet at being good in the future but at the same time we got to realize we dont have a 1st rd pick the year after this upcoming draft so we really have to just sit on some of these horrendous contracts. I love Kenny Thomas but not at 50 million. I would leave him unprotected in the expansion draft

BEEZ,

I don't want to give you a heart attack, but I swear I read somewhere that Billy King didn't want to give up Kenny Thomas or Samuel Dalembert. I'll try to find it, I read it last week. If I don't find it, lets hope it was me going a little crazy because King wasn't fired.

The way I see it is, if we get a draft pick (maybe Okafor, maybe Howard, obviously a front court guy) in the lottery this year, we're in good shape to improve for next year. What the team has done wrong the whole time when trying to get a second option for Iverson, they try to get a perimeter player to go with him, when we need someone who can run the court and can score in and around the post. That's something we've never given Iverson.
