Iverson: Trouble with PRACTICE... again

"The relationship between us goes out the window," said Iverson, the NBA's leading scorer. "I told him why I couldn't make it and it wasn't enough." http://www.eurweb.com/articles/headl...5802182004.cfm

Prediction: Philly will make a deal to get rid of him soon enough.

If he could not make practice he should have called ahead of time just like any other job. If I decided not to show up to work I would probably be fired if I did not call in before I was suppose to be there.

Time is running short to deal him, they better move quickly or figure out a way to resolve the issue. It seems like Iverson has worn out his stay in Philly, atleast to the management. I'm sure the fans still love him.

I just looked at Philly's cap status to see where they would stand if they dealt AI. They basically have no future. All of these years of building around one superstar is eventually going to catch up to them when Iverson gets traded. As if it's not bad enough trying to build a team around Kenny Thomas, Aaron McKie, and Eric Snow, they have to build around an older McKie and Snow now if they traded AI. These guys are nothing more that solid role players at this point. If they trade Iverson they'll be the worst team in the league by far.

The team needs to be dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up. It worked for the Nuggets.

Iverson did call ahead of time, he called Billy King because he didn't have a number for Chris Ford. And Iverson had just played in the all-star game which started at like 9pm, so what he wasn't able to get to practice. He flew in from California to Philly that day, if the whole team flew in from Cali to Philly that day, I seriously doubt the team would have had practice.

There is no way the Sixers are trading Iverson, you guys must be kidding yourselves if you think a disagreement with the "interim coach" is going to push things over the edge. How about the thousands of fans who would absolutely hate the Sixers organization for getting rid of their best player since Charles Barkley, and maybe most loved ever.

Neither Shaq, nor Artest made their post all-star game practices...

It's pretty ridiculous that an interim coach is making such a big deal out of this. He should try to be a little understanding of Iverson having played just the night before.

He also said something about plays. Earth to Chris Ford. Your playbook is: give the ball to Iverson and get out of the way. Don't get cute.

Anyhow. I don't think Iverson is going anywhere. Billy King can act like he's going to trade him all he wants, but from what people have said, the higher ups in Philly are not going to let it happen. Iverson is Philly. Not just the Sixers. But the City. He can pretty much do whatever the **** he wants to do. That's just how it is. There ARE diffrent rules for superstars. When coaches don't understand that then **** goes down.

I mean. Are you going to tell me that the Sixers organization is going to get behind Chris Ford? I know Chris Ford was a miracle worker with the Celtics way back when but Larry Brown he is not.

Who does Chris Ford think he is? That's pretty impressive to come in and on day 1 alienate the franchise player.

It looks like he's trying to get himself traded again, but it probably won't happen until the summer.

Now, I'm a huge Allen Iverson fan and hope he gets to finish his career in Philly, BUT, I can't really take his side in this. Why? The ASG started at 6 pm PST, and ended around 8:30 - 9 pm PST, practice the next day was in Denver, and his plane was so delayed that he couldn't make practice the next day? I find that very hard to believe, there's different rules for superstars, but when you're trying to start the final stage of the season on the right foot that superstar has to sacrifice some leeway for the sake of the team.

I love AI, but things like this might just be the bait that Billy King needed to show Ed Snider that Iverson needs to go. It's well known Chris Ford isn't the future coach of the team, and what he's doing right now is auditioning for a future job somewhere in this league he's been out of for about the past decade.

Iverson sells tickets, losing doesn't, and when that sinks into the heads of the whole fanbase, it becomes obvious that something must be done. Losing with AI on the squad, would be what happened on Space Jam if MJ and the Looney Tunes lost that game.

I agree with everything you said.

I just wanted to add that building around Iverson is a stupid idea in the first place. I hate watching Philly play because their game plan is simple...give the ball to Iverson and everyone crash the boards or rotate. What kind of offense is that? He is a hell of a player, but he should realize that in order for his team to get better the offense needs to change. Iverson needs to sacrifice his game a little bit for the good of the team. Maybe try some new options on offense. It's not really his fault, because the team was built around him. Building around a guy of his size and abilities is stupid in the first place. He is a superstar, but you should ideally build around a center.

Philly has messed up with Iverson. I like Iverson a lot, but he seems out of it sometimes. What do you mean you don't go to practice? He thinks he is bigger than he is....he needs a reality check. Let me call 50 cent... ;-)

Thanks for pointing that out, forgot they played in Denver. Even still, the rest of the team got to Denver on Sunday, Iverson was scheduled to get their on Monday, so I think he should've had a pass from practice anyway. Artest missed so did Shaq, why aren't people saying trade them away? Did you hear Shaq's reason, he said something like the window was open and he got a cold from it so he couldn't go, yea right, he was basically saying I'm Shaq and you guys aren't doing anything about it. But Iverson has a legit reason and people are saying he is dead wrong.

Shaq is a moron but there's a reason why the Lakers tolerate his antics. For years he's been the best player in the league. Even now, at age 32, he's still a top 3 player. Iverson is great but he's never been as good as Shaq. He hasn't led his team to 3 titles. Iverson is probably more important to his team because the Sixers suck but they aren't going anywhere regardless. If the Lakers traded Shaq it would put a serious dent into their championship aspirations. The Sixers are already a bad team. Disciplining Iverson doesn't really hurt them.
