Did anyone see the game and would be willing to give a brief report on anything of interset?

They show jr. high horseshoe compettions but can't show the 76ers pre season opener?

Luckily, I was able to listen to the 2nd half of the game over the net, from a San Antonio radio feed. It sounded like a pretty sloppy game overall from what I heard. But here's a pretty damn good recap that someone who was at the game posted on another message board:

Quote:
Here's the player breakdown for the sixers:

Snow: He was the usual, aggressive, leader on the court, and he actually played less minutes than usually. He showed extreme aggression in penetrating, but still doesn't get any respect on his shot...

McKie: It was nice to see Blue back. He had a good game, however made some passing mistakes, and at the end got tired. He shot a couple of open ones, but was not as aggressive as Snow, most likely because of his injury.

Salmons: This guy is very calm through the game, but showed signs of being a rookie, after not getting back in defence most of the times, when we scored. The Spurs exploited that, scoring at least 10 points by going coast to coast with Parker or whoever else was their point after our score. He had some good efforts during the game, and looked for his pass instead of his shot, which seems he didn't trust till the end.

Brown: Here's the surprise - he was a started, started well, but then disappear in the process. He was the only player that we had that looked to create his own shot sometimes, but he was too slow on defence, and despite his effort, he seemed lost sometimes. He showed some skills but still, he wasn't a big deal in the game.

Dalembert: Well, Sammy is going for big minutes this season (like 10 or so ) but still. He had something like 5-6 blocks, three of them in a single Spurs attack! He jumps to heaven, and reacts very fast on getting a ball. His major limitation was that he was jumping too fast sometimes, fouling people or falling victim to a fake.

Skinner: This guy is a perfect backup - and knowing Larry Brown, he will get more and more playing time. He jumped on every loose ball, he grabbed lots of rebounds, and in general, he was a solid 4 under the basket. He made some fouls, but he was still a solid backup.

Todd McCollough: He wasn't the old Todd. He had some nice finishes, but he seemed waaay too slow with his injury. I hope it's something he will get over with. He had some nice foul calls for us against Duncan, but he has to get healthy to offer as the starter center...

Keith Van Horn: He played 5 minutes or so, then he was sitting on the bench. Did something happen to him? I kept asking, but noone knew! Does anyone know anything on that?

Efthimios Rentzias: Well, he showed some signs of offence, being the only tall guy that actually looked for his shot, but he needs to get adjusted. Him and Dalembert together showed a good combo, as they played great on the offensive end, and okay in the defensive end. Snow was into him the whole game, explaining to him most of the plays, what he did wrong, what he did bad, and teaching him. IMO, he should only get better, and he can be a solid backup for now.

William Avery: Even though he made a couple of shots, he is not making the team as long as he improves in his transition defence. He was sometimes out of everything in the defensive end, but tried to create things on offence.

Art Long: Well, there's another player out...he was okay, but not to the point of making the team. He was slow at a point where the Spurs opened up a 10pt lead, and he seemed out of it. I think he won't make the team through. There were no signs of offense on him, so you guys were correct earlier

Alvin Jones: Well...he's my first guess between him and Brown getting cut. He had a usual game, unneccessary fouls, he seemed to be too stressed there...

The team in general: The team looks like the Sixers of the past, using the trap effectively actually for the first time in 2 years. Dalembert and Rentzias and Skinner were the main reasons. Salmons was also another reason, because of his size. Snow sometimes played the 2 tonight - not effectively. McKie and Snow chased the rest of the guys in the field to teach them on every single play - that was really good, but it could be bad if by now they didn't learn the plays

The disappointing side of the sixers, was that when Snow or McKie were guarded heavily, noone else looked to create his shot, except Brown sometimes, and Rentzias late in the game. Snow and Rentzias played the pick and roll two or three times, successfully. The team however, still can't defend on the pick and roll with Jones or McCollough in the game - they are too slow. Skinner and Dalembert defended it well, Rentzias tried. Also, the rookies made some horrible mistakes because they were too stressed to impress Brown - I could hear snow yelling at Salmons and Ivery to relax and take things easy.

The optimistic side: The Sixers played an athletic game. They looked to run the ball at every single opportunity for the fast break, and Dalembert, Skinner and Rentzias could follow.
They managed to put 5 fouls on Duncan by midway through the 3rd quarter, mainly because of Snow's and McKie's penetration, and good positioning by Todd and Dalembert.

Things that I noticed: Van Horn started at the 4. He tried to contain Duncan, but soon needed help so Todd went to double, leaving the Admiral wide open sometimes.
We didn't score on a 3 point attepmt...I am not sure we attempted even a 3 pointer. I don't know why, is it their lack of confidence, or their lack of getting open. Spurs never actually were forced to double, so that might be.

The trap was effective most of the times - it forced Spurs turnovers, and kept the Sixers into the game.

Brown and Popovich were trying schemes sometimes, which they talked over at the benches...you could hear them actually talking about which players they wanted to try...

The final conclusion? With Iverson, Van Horn and Coleman (well...) and Williams, I like our chances...Buckner should be some valid help too. The big picture? Our frontcourt is very fast when Todd's not in the game. Rentzias is still learning, but he showed signs of offence when he actually looked for his shot. Dalembert has a bright potential once he learns to control himself. Skinner will probably get the more playing time, since he grabbed many rebounds today.
I'm somewhat encourage after reading that.

Thank-you. If they don't have to bump "cheerleaders double date for dollars" or somesuch, maybe we can see the next game.

Unfortunately, the only two games that are televised in Philly are the two home games (10/14 vs Washington and 10/19 vs Utah), both on CSN.

which is a big waste since I'll be at both of those games

Tonight's game against the wiz I believe will be webcast on Sixers.com
