I think next season will be better. The team started playing well at the end of the season, without AI. I don't know if it will be AI or Robinson or whoever, but I think someone will be moved in the offseason.

Seasons not over, we have two games left. I know what you meant, but our hopes to make the playoffs were thin after Friday's loss. So instead of thinking about it being over, think about these games being two more chances to see what we have and what might be next year.
If the team fights these next two games, I'll be happy.

*sigh* Injuries killed this team.
But I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like the potential of Philly's youngsters, Dalembert as a rebounder and shotblocker, Korver as a shooter, etc. Let's just hope that this season was just a fluke.

One on one, even one on two, when the guy they call the Answer is on a one-way trip to the basket, you better just foul him. People can hate all day about the number of shot attempts. But, damn, give him props for even getting them up. He's small enough to have every shot contested. That 39% shooting sounds terrible to the regular reader, but have you seen these NBA players lately?"

Keith Van Horn....Glenn Robinson....Who's next?
The 76ers thought they had found their 2nd offensive option the past two years, and both guys dissapointed, I guess.
I still think Philly should have held onto Van Horn. The loss of Van Horn didn't kill the team, but along with injuries, Glenn Robinson did IMO.
Dalembert and Kenny Thomas are a very formidable big-man combo, but the 76ers desperately need another young scorer with AI, not a guy like Glenn Robinson.

More than anything else, what killed the Sixers is the fact they're still paying for that ungodly contract they gave Dikembe Mutombo, because he was playing the best basketball of his life through the 2001 playoffs. When they switched up the whole team after that season, they expected the same Mutombo.. they didn't get him.
So they went and traded him for MacCullouch and KVH, two players with substantial contracts hoping that they'd fill the needs to bring the Sixers back to the finals. It didn't work. We all know what happened with Big Mac, and we traded KVH got Big Dog, and in the long run I think that was a good move, because Big Dog has the shorter contract. While there's no denying the negative impact Big Dog has had on this team, there's no way to say that if the team had KVH that the Sixers would've made the playoffs. I actually don't see how they could.
The direction this team is going, is probably to move Iverson. At this point of his career he's not going to be able to be the top option for a team, especially if he's not going to rehab his knee injury. Iverson needs to end up on a team with a solid foundation where there's someone on the team (or in the organization) that he would respect and listen to when they advise him. His situation here, was a bad situation from the start that was covered until after Brown left, with guys like AI you can't let them do whatever they want, you have to be firm from the start.
With the Sixers as a team, and organization in a transitional period, they can't afford to keep Iverson. So they have to try and find the best deal available. In the end it'd be the best situation for both sides.

Personally, I think the Sixers are a pretty good team if they could only STAY HEALTHY! For the past 3 years at least the Sixers are ALWAYS bit with the injury bug. We never seem to have a healthy team. Is there something wrong with the medical staff? If we could only stay healthy we could no doubt challenge in the East. Dalembert is going to be a pretty good center IMO. Kenny Thomas can play both SF, which i think was his position when he came into theleague, and PF pretty well. Snow and Iverson lock down the guard slots. We should hope that our close to 1% chance of winning the lottery actually happens. Wishful thinking probably, but if we did and drafted Okafur, we would be a beast in the East. Dalembert/Okafur/Thomas/Iverson/Snow with McKie, Jackson, Korver, Green Salmons... Again, probably wishful thinking. Right now if we can get a decent PF and stay healthy i believe that we can challenge next season, especially with our lottery pick. The future seems decently bright. Green has been playing pretty well, and Salmons has showed flashes of ability. If only Salmons could play like he did in the summer leagues. Dalembert and Thomas are solid. The future isn't as dark as it seems IMO.

Also, look at the bright side, we don't have to see Big Dog suit up again this season.

I'm not really behind Kyle Korver, but Willie Green on the otherhand has been looking nice.

Korver isn't going to be a superstar, but if he's a shooting specialist/8th man off the bench, I think he's a nice fit on any team. The only thing about him, is that he's not going to get much better while Green looks to have some more room to improve.

Defensive hustle. Where is it now ? It wasn't just AI's phenomenal scoring but the entire team's attitude that I loved. Yeah they were smaller and lighter than most opposition but they had that fire and that passion that made Philly a tremendous hustling defense team, coupled with Big Deke in the middle. That's one reason I hated the Glenn Robinson trade. Van Horn was bad too on defense but Robinson's work ethic is plain appalling. He's sluggish and makes no effort whatsoever to stay with his man on the perimeter or use his size to chrash the boards.
So I say keep AI. The team has already invested in him too much to just throw him away now, but Big Dog has to go. If needs, they should leave him unprotected during the expansion draft so that Charlotte can pick him up. Kyle Korver is a great prospect because though he will never be a star, the Sixers can try and have his as their very own Steve Kerr. I thought from day 1 that he was a real steal in the draft. Quite obviously, the same goes for Willie Green, who also has to work on his point guard skills and decision making. We all know he can score and all he has to do now is improve on the other facets of his perimeter game.
Dalembert is also another player for the future. He has great shot-blocking instincts and will be a top rebounder as well in the league someday. In short, the Sixers need to once again become that hustle team ad I say that if they can indeed trade Big Dog somehow or even just get rid of him, it will be great for the team.

I totally agree with this. Exactly what I would have said.
