Pat Croce Q&A
Quote:
Q: Do you miss running the Sixers?
A: More importantly, I miss the interaction with the fans, and being the genie. It's really cool to put smiles on people's faces. I just get a chance to do it in a different way now. ... They were great memories, but the rear-view mirror in my life is very small. The front windshield is so big, and I'm going so fast.
Q: The Sixers aren't down as far as they were when you took over, but it's not a pretty picture. What happened?
A: It's a tough situation - long-term contracts, signing guys with character that's questionable, maybe draft picks that weren't the best.
Q: Are you still angry at Larry Brown? (Croce ripped him on WIP after Brown, at his introductory news conference in Detroit, said he never had total personnel control here).
A: No. I was ... But Larry is Larry. We did a charity function recently, and we had a big hug. I was mad because he said he didn't know his title. That's a reflection on me because I was the [leader] of that company. But I value his friendship, and I truly value his expertise. He did everything I asked him to do.
Q: Have you talked to Allen Iverson lately?
A: I saw him once [this season]. A Bentley came by, stopped, he got out and we gave each other a big hug.
Q: You were an authority figure he respected. But the controversies continue. Why?
A: He knows I care about him, like when I punished him. I think that sometimes he craves discipline. My wife and I used to talk about this: When everything's going smooth, he creates chaos, because he was brought up in chaos and he feels comfortable in it. So you've got to deal with it.

My teams will never win a championship anyway, so why don't you discuss everything else at my forum? Good idea, right? Yeah, I thought so. It's called.. Booing Santa Claus. See you there.
